This is an exciting opportunity to join the Operations Team at Locating, Inc. as a Damage Investigator. Locating, Inc, supports utility operators throughout America to prevent damages to their infrastructure. Reliably completing millions of locate requests each year assisting project owners and managers in achieving safer excavations and reducing damages to the underground infrastructure. We utilize modern technologies and skilled professionals to deliver timely, reliable, and accurate locate services to protect utility operators’ infrastructure throughout America. Our Damage Investigator plays a critical role in supporting our Operations partners in damage prevention and quality assurance initiatives. As a result, we hold ourselves to high standards and expectations. The Damage Investigator reports directly to the Operations Manager. In this role, the ideal candidate will be highly organized with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, while focusing on quality and integrity in the Damage Investigation process. The DI objectively investigates utility damages and communicates findings to management. The DI improves quality in assigned areas by identifying and addressing field quality deficiencies resulting in fewer damages.
- Collaborate with Operations partners to identify potential opportunities for damage prevention through the field audit process.
- Identify at-risk Field Technicians who need additional training to prevent potential for damages.
- Perform field audits for accuracy of marks and compliance with applicable state laws, regulations, and contractual obligations per client.
- Correct the field risk findings and coach/mentor technicians.
- Provide frequent and ongoing feedback to FIeld Check partners to improve quality results, reduce damages and ensure audit requests are being submitted with proper documentation.
- Communicate audit and investigation findings with quality assurance and operations management, both verbally & in written format.
- Effectively balance various job responsibilities while meeting daily productivity & efficiency standards, and completion deadlines.
- Provide witness testimony in small claims and litigated cases when necessary.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture and ensure quality standards are being met.
- Promote a good working relationship with clients, excavators, regulators, employees, and the public.
- Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance.
- Will support hands-on utility locate training and education in Damage Prevention
- Remain current on existing and emerging learning methodologies and technologies
- Ticket production and weekend work may be required, as needed
- Completes other duties, as needed

- High School Diploma or GED equivalency
- Two (2) or more years of experience locating underground utilities and/or combination of related experience required
- Thorough understanding of utility locating procedures, marking standards and proficiency with locate equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot difficult locates and proficiently interpret all utility plats.
- Demonstrated ability to appropriately coach and mentor technicians.
- Apply critical thinking skills to understand problems, analyze facts and anticipate results to make decisions based on available information and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals at all levels and areas within the organization
- Proficiency in computer based technology and ability to learn new systems & software related to the role.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
- Respond to emergency calls, as needed.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment. (shovels, screw drivers, wrenches, and ped keys etc.)
- Ability to carry 3-5 lb electronic locating equipment for extended periods of time; lifting objects up to 50 pounds or lifting in excess of 50 lbs with tool aids.
Salary Range $24 - $28 / hr (based on experience)
