We are looking for a Controls Specialist (Generator) to join our technical team and provide expert support in designing, implementing, and commissioning aftermarket solutions and field upgrades for generator and switchgear-based control systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring our microgrid and power systems meet high standards of performance, reliability, and compliance.
· Conduct site evaluations to determine requirements for generator and switchgear control system upgrades or modifications.
· Collaborate with Engineering and third-party vendors to design and implement solutions for Microgrid Control Systems.
· Lead complex field installations, retrofits, and upgrades for generator controllers, switchgear systems, and associated monitoring equipment.
· Develop and follow detailed methods of procedure (MOPs) for all system modifications.
· Commission systems and validate performance upon completion of upgrades.
· Create and revise redline schematics and documentation to support engineering with accurate as-built records.
· Modify or develop settings files for devices such as PLCs, generator controllers, and protection relays.
· Maintain accurate records of on-site changes and communicate updates with relevant teams.
· Escalate any project risks or customer-impacting issues promptly to leadership.
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in power generation and switchgear systems.
· 12+ years of experience with commercial/industrial generators, ATS/switchgear, and paralleling control systems.
· Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and engineered drawings.
· Hands-on experience with PLC programming, generator controllers, protective relays, and power electronics.
· Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical theory and generator/switchgear operation.
· Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel up to 85% of the time.
· NFPA 70E Arc Flash Certification preferred (can be obtained upon hiring).
· Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently.
· Frequent travel to customer sites across Florida and potentially the Southeastern U.S.
· Work may be performed outdoors, around running generators, live electrical systems, and heavy industrial equipment.
· Must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions and in environments with electrical and mechanical hazards (with PPE and safety protocols provided).
· Manual dexterity to handle small electronic components, controllers, laptops, and diagnostic tools.
