Overview:
Roberts Electrical Contracting is an electrical contracting business in Commerce City, Colorado seeking a hands-on Controller to join our team. Applicants should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and dedicated to superior customer service. Excellent communication skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task are a must.
Summary/Objective:
Primary responsibilities include managing all aspects of accounting and finance to include oversight of day-to-day accounting activities, close process, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting. Coordinate with third-party service companies providing HR/Payroll and IT services. Requires a wide range of duties from hands-on tasks at the operations level to involvement with the executive team on strategic initiatives. Supervises a team of three (3) direct reports. Position reports directly to the CFO.
Pay: $120,000 - $150,000 (Exempt; Full-Time; Regular Business Hours; 100% In-Office)
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
•Oversight of day-to-day accounting activities to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
•Responsible for data integration between accounting system and project management system.
•Weekly calculation of prevailing wages for certified payroll and related certified payroll reporting.
•Weekly payroll approval, reconciliation, and general ledger entry.
•Monitor employee insurance benefit enrollments, deductions, and routinely perform reconciliations.
•Supervision of the monthly project billing process (knowledge of AIA payment application, Procore, Textura, GC Pay, a plus).
•Monitor collections and follow-up with customers. Ensure all supplier and payment lien waivers are executed properly and in a timely manner.
•Understand and initiate the mechanic’s lien process as necessary.
•Manage banking activities, including cash flow management, monitoring covenant compliance, and monthly external reporting.
•Timely and accurate monthly close process including account reconciliation and general ledger entries.
•Monthly job cost allocations, work-in-progress, and job profitability reporting.
•Preparation and analysis of the monthly financial reporting, cash projections, and forecasting.
•Annual budget preparation.
•Supervise and mentor direct reports. Conduct annual performance reviews.
Other Responsibilities:
•Cooperate with project managers to report on budget to actual variances at the project level.
•Provide project management system support to project team on an as needed basis.
•Resolve sales tax discrepancies with vendors.
•Coordinate with insurance agent to resolve insurance compliance issues.
•Serve as point of contact during the liability insurance renewal process, as well as during the annual insurance audits.
•Procure and track company issued IT equipment.
•Preparation of required tax filings and reporting (sales and use tax, personal property tax, 1099-MISC forms, tax affidavits, and other).
•Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other financial regulations.
•Develop efficient processes and procedures ensuring proper internal control.
•Effectively communicate with vendors, general contractors, and peers on a regular basis.
•Serve as main point of contact for external auditors/tax preparers and prepare required documentation for annual reviews.
•Manage business relationships with HR/payroll and IT service providers, banking and financial institutions.
•Oversee the annual employee benefits open enrollment
•Partner with leadership team on strategic initiatives.
•Assist CFO (or other Executives) with miscellaneous projects and tasks, as requested.
Education Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (or related field).
Experience Requirement:
•7-10 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.
•Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
•Demonstrated ability to exercise professional integrity and confidentiality.
•Excellent Microsoft Excel skills are a must.
•Experience with accounting system implementations.
•Experience with accounting systems (Quickbooks and Sage), preferred.
•Familiarity with sales and use tax laws relating to construction projects, preferred.
•Knowledge of construction industry and percentage-of-completion accounting, preferred.
