Control Systems Engineer Senior

Essential Job Functions:

- Provide technical expertise and representation at review meetings.

- Manage internal and external stakeholders. Ensure buy-in and support for project plans and schedules through frequent project status (i.e. schedule, cost, scope changes, safety, etc.)

- Present and implement recommendations supported by sound engineering and operational efficiency that supports reliability targets and reduces risks inherent in the project.

- Creates specifications; Verify quality status of designs, prepares bid documents; evaluates bids received; prepares and presents reports and recommendations as required for the purchase of materials, equipment, services, and miscellaneous items associated with thermal and/or hydroelectric generation facilities and other assigned projects.

- May assist in the training of thermal and hydroelectric generation maintenance technicians for installation, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures involving new equipment.

- Coordinates or verifies work of outside contractors and/or engineering firms concerning thermal and hydroelectric generation design activities; monitors work orders, project progress, change orders, and contractor payments of assigned areas.

- Design, develop, program, implement, modify, and troubleshoot control systems for plant equipment, machinery, and processes. This includes PLC programs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).

- Create and maintain HMI interfaces for user interaction with control systems.

- Create if needed user manuals for control systems.

- Installed and configured field instruments, sensors, and actuators for control system applications to resolve operation issues.

- Provide technical input to the design of electrical panels and control wiring diagrams.

- Conduct regular system performance assessments (in collaboration with the operations team) to identify potential risks and mitigate downtime.

- Manage and maintain the backup and recovery procedures for control system programs.

- Develop and optimize PLC programming for various plant equipment, reducing downtime through improved fault detection.

- Prepare and submit reports detailing system performance, issues, and improvement recommendations.

- Develop preventive maintenance schedules (migrations and upgrades) for automation systems to minimize unplanned downtime.

- Collaborate with IT teams to ensure smooth integration between automation and IT systems.

- Ensure that automation systems adhere to best practices for data security and integrity.

- Odd shifts and after-hours work may be required under system emergency.

- In collaboration with the GRDA Compliance team, administer NERC compliance procedures, perform internal audits, coordinate subject testing, maintain documentation.

- Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience:

- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related field from an accredited college; a combination of advanced education and relevant practical experience may also be considered.

- Minimum of 6 years of experience in engineering roles involving control systems, automation, or related technologies.

- Experience in the Utility Power Generation industry.

Special Certificates, Registrations, and Licenses Required:

- PE preferred.

- Must have a valid Oklahoma driver's license.

- PE registration in Oklahoma preferred, not required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

- Must have exceptional knowledge and understanding of mechanical, electrical and high-pressure steam systems, power generation processes, and industry specific codes and be able to perform automation design.

- Preferred knowledge and experience with OSISOFT Pi, Emerson Ovation DCS, Mitsubishi Netmation DCS, Allen Bradley PLC and HMI’s (Wonderware, FactoryTalk, etc.), including programming and troubleshooting.

- Preferred knowledge and experience with all forms of communication protocols

- Experience with motion control systems, sensors, actuators, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).

- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.

- Must have strong commitment to safety, a high level of personal integrity, and dedication to conducting business in an ethical way.

- Functional competency with personal computers; prefer experience with CMMS (Maximo), Excel, Access, and Word.

- Must be capable of methodical analysis of complex technical problems.

- Must possess and demonstrate excellent writing and composition skills.

- Must be comfortable giving verbal presentations before groups.

- North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Compliance. Knowledge of theory and practical aspects of testing, modeling and operation of generators, excitation systems, power system stabilizers, turbine governors, voltage and frequency controls.

- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.

- Strong communication skills to work effectively with internal teams, clients, and vendors.

- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

- Must be able to walk, climb stairs, crawl, work from ladders and elevated platforms. Must not have a fear of heights, confined spaces, or working around high voltage equipment.

- Ability to lift, move, and carry weights of up to 50 lb. on an irregular basis.

- Must possess mental, visual, and auditory acuity for attention to visual and auditory detail. Manual dexterity is required for operation of test equipment, small tools, and the installation, adjustment, and repair of control devices.

Environmental Conditions and Safety Concerns:

- Work locations range from an office environment to outdoors and/or indoors in a high noise/high temperature environment with possible work in confined spaces.

- Emergency repair work may be required during system upsets.

Job Location:

- Work will be performed in any of the hydroelectric facilities or the thermal generation facility as assigned. Travel distance between facilities is approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
