Idaho Asphalt Supply, Inc., is a leading asphalt supplier and marketer in the Inland Northwest and Pacific Northwest Regions. With plants in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, and Arizona, IAS supplies a diverse product line of asphalts, polymer-modified asphalt, and asphalt emulsions to the road maintenance and construction industry. IAS is looking for an energized and flexible self-starter to fill a full-time opening for a Construction Manager in any of the following locations Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, California, or Arizona.
The Construction Manager is responsible for the management of an in-house construction team that provides maintenance and new construction support for facilities across the Western United States. The construction team consists of highly skilled craftsmen who have a deep level of experience and expertise in welding, pipe fitting, fabrication and general maintenance. The Construction Manager is also responsible for coordinating and managing outside contractors for larger, more diverse construction jobs. The Construction Manager is heavily involved in piping design and layout, tank and machine fabrication, and coordinates design requirements with vendors and/or engineering personnel. They are also responsible for coordinating all aspects of the construction projects including design, specification, procurement, construction and start-up. The Construction Manager must have a full understanding of the current project he is working on but must also understand the longer term plans and make sure that all projects are designed and implemented in a way that makes them easily reliable, low cost, and efficient as well as being easy to operate, maintain and modify or expanded in the future.
The Construction Manager reports to the Vice President of Operations and is a key part of the leadership of the operations division. The Construction Manager works with the operations leadership to set priorities for maintenance and construction activities. They are responsible for allocating and managing internal team resources and acquiring and leading outside resources as needed to meet those priorities and keep operations running reliably and efficiently as well as keeping new construction projects on time and on budget.
- Deep understanding of the skilled crafts of his team; welding, pipe fitting, fabrication and maintenance.
- Extensive design and project management experience and expertise.
- Expert knowledge on API (American Petroleum Institute) 650 and API 653 standards for welded petroleum storage tanks.
- Expertise in all aspects of welding and capable of training and certifying welders on the 6G welding test as well as expertise on how do proper weld repairs on API tanks.
- Strong piping layout and design skills and be capable of performing the math, geometry and trigonometry needed to properly out piping systems.
- Excellent leadership skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization as well as the ability to discuss technology with vendors and engineers.- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience, with 10+ years of construction experience.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy gained through formal education and hands-on experience.
- High spatial intelligence with the ability to create complex models to ensure optimum layout and flexibility of tanks, pipes, pumps, and processing equipment.
- Certification in API 650, API 653, and pipe welding.
- Proven ability to train apprentices and mentor them to journeyman level.
- Experience managing multimillion-dollar projects, delivering them on schedule and within budget.
- Highly resourceful with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop unique solutions.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in computer systems, with the ability to learn new processes and systems quickly.

- Primarily field-based, with time spent on layout work, construction planning, coordinating and managing contractors and employees, troubleshooting, welding, and operating heavy equipment.
- Significant travel required, with the construction manager spending over 50% of their time on the road, often for extended periods.
- Work across 14 locations, requiring flexibility to adapt to various environments.
- Exposure to outdoor environments with extreme weather conditions, from the heat of Arizona deserts in summer to the cold of the Wyoming Rockies in winter.
- Office-based project planning activities are occasional but do not constitute the majority of the role.
