We are seeking a highly motivated Contruction Intern to join our team. The Construction Intern at the Astoria Generating Station will support oversight of contractor work by assisting with administrative and field tasks related to construction, maintenance, and upgrade projects. This role involves coordinating with contractors, documenting project progress, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The intern will gain practical experience in construction management, project coordination, and power plant operations, making it ideal for students in construction management, civil engineering, or related fields seeking hands-on exposure in an industrial environment.
- Assist in managing contractor onboarding, Safety Orientation, work schedules, work assignments, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with project timelines and plant requirements.
- Accompany supervisors during field inspections of contractor work, monitoring progress on construction, maintenance, or equipment installation projects (e.g., boilers, turbines, piping systems).
- Maintain accurate records of contractor activities, including daily logs, progress reports, and safety compliance documentation, using tools like Microsoft Excel, Word, or project management software.
- Prepare and organize project documents, such as work orders, permits, purchase requisitions, and material inventories, to support construction activities.
- Adhere to and promote safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and hazard identification; assist in conducting safety audits and attending safety briefings.
- Support quality control efforts by assisting in inspections to ensure contractor work meets project specifications, industry standards, and plant requirements.
- Collect and analyze project data, such as labor hours, material usage, or equipment performance, to support cost tracking and project efficiency evaluations.
- Contribute to planning and execution of small-scale construction projects, including retrofits, repairs, or facility upgrades, under the guidance of the Construction Supervisor and/or Engineers.
- Work closely with contractors, maintenance teams, and plant personnel to facilitate communication and ensure smooth project execution.
- Perform other tasks as assigned, such as data entry, shadowing construction personnel, or assisting with general facility maintenance.

- Education: Current enrollment in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; sophomore or junior standing preferred.
- Experience: No prior professional experience required; coursework or projects in construction management, project planning, or industrial systems is a plus.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Basic understanding of construction processes, preferably related to industrial or power generation facilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting and data analysis; familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Primavera, Microsoft Project) or CAD software is an advantage.
