Position: Construction Inspector
Department: Engineering & Construction
Hourly Salary: $26.00 per hour
Work Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Day Shift); some overtime required
Note: This is a contract/temporary position. No benefits are offered
Position Function:
The Construction Inspector is responsible for ensuring that construction projects comply with approved plans, specifications, and standards. This role involves on-site inspection, coordination with contractors and engineers, and communication with the public to minimize disruption and ensure quality.
Typical/Essential Duties
•Maintains quality assurance by visually inspecting all work associated with the construction of structures, pipelines, and paving, including seeding, grading, pipeline testing, and electrical installation and testing.
•Serves as a liaison with the public, addressing concerns from residents and business owners affected by construction activities. Works proactively to resolve complaints and coordinates with contractors to reduce disruptions.
•Facilitates effective verbal and written communication between contractors, engineers, and public entities to clarify plans, specifications, and manage service interruptions or reductions.
•Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
•High School Diploma or GED is required.
•Must have specific knowledge and experience related to the construction inspection field.
•Minimum of three (3) years of utility construction inspection experience is required.
•Must be able to read plans, specifications, and information supplied by suppliers and manufacturers.
•Must be able to write reports and complete forms.
•Must be able to interpret formulas, calculate quantities such as linear area and volume, measure distances and check elevations.
•Must possess a valid Texas ‘Class C’ Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements:
•Frequent walk, bend, squat, climb, and kneel.
•Ability to lift, push or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to pass applicable pre-employment Drug Screen, Physical, and Background Checks.
