Ensures construction scope is defined and leads effort in preparing and administering documents for bidding. Coordinates, monitors, inspects, and approves the Substation Civil/Electrical and Transmission line construction work done by outside contractors to assure workmanship quality and compliance with the provisions of the Drawings and Specifications. Provides leadership, training, and direction to fellow staff members.
Works under indirect supervision to monitor, inspect, and accept Substation and Transmission construction work done by outside contractors.
Coordinates project-related efforts with Project Managers, Project Engineers, other departments and government agencies.
Provides technical construction expertise and reviews the design drawings for Substation and/or Transmission line projects for constructability.
Reviews contractors work schedules to make sure contract construction work is completed in accordance with Company imposed deadlines. Reviews and approves contractor’s monthly invoices for payment.
Manages construction contracts and negotiates change orders for work changes in the scope of work.
Maintains a daily log of the contractor’s construction activities and prepares a weekly activity report of construction progress.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school plus 3 years of related work experience with at least one year experience in construction methods for transmission line and substation projects.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 7 years of related work experience with at least one year experience in construction methods for transmission line and substation projects.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Contract administration and works closely with Supply Chain to ensure all contracts have been properly documented.
- Construction management and contract administration
- Local and federal permit requirements, processes and procedures
- Transmission line and substation construction methods
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software
General office environment plus light field work on active construction sites. No special physical demands required.
