Together, we’re building the future we all aspire to — making net zero a reality.

One team, one future.

Role Overview

The “Engineer II, Configuration” (or “Configuration Engineer II”) position is a mid-level (intermediate) engineering role responsible for clarifying, defining, maintaining, consolidating, and optimizing the configurations of “parts” (i.e., components, sub-assemblies, assemblies, and/or kits) of gas turbines (GTs), steam turbines (STs), and related auxiliaries to facilitate the reliable and effective service operations of existing and future power generation facilities. This includes—but is not limited to—continuously developing and maintaining the engineering databases, system interfaces, data exchange architecture, business process coordination, and other systems, processes, and improvements necessary to provide and maintain an effective and comprehensive understanding and knowledge base regarding the expanding fleet of GTs and STs sold and/or serviced by Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc. (MPW-A).

Additionally, this role is responsible for rapidly responding to and supporting incoming customer requests for the quotation and/or purchase of GT, ST, and/or auxiliary (AUX) parts by clarifying/identifying/assigning their respective MPW-A part numbers, as well as ensuring that each such part has sufficient engineering definition available for Sourcing, suppliers, and manufacturers.

As an intermediate position, this role also provides occasional opportunities for leading/managing various “special projects”, as well as onboarding and developing less-experienced (typically “Engineer I, Configuration”) team members through a variety of methods and formats, such as: providing training (one-on-one and in group sessions); hosting on-the-job shadowing sessions; writing/reviewing work instructions; creating/presenting/recording presentations; and/or reviewing/approving other team members’ tasking and deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

- Collect, analyze, summarize, and understand business requirements and accordingly develop configuration specifications (including design BoMs, service BoMs, parts catalogs, and quotable/procurable part definitions) to accurately document GT, ST, and AUX configurations at their various lifecycle states, including as-built assembly configurations and ongoing maintenance configurations (e.g., after each outage).

- Review and recommend changes to configuration management processes, develop process improvements to automate and streamline these processes, and suggest environment modifications to support system needs.

- Provide technical support for system design, testing, and implementation activities to support ongoing part consolidation efforts within MPW-A. Identify shortcomings and missed information that result in business inefficiencies. Apply the principles from industry best practices and remain current on industry and technical skills in the areas of configuration management.

- Collect and consolidate corporate baseline of GT, ST, and AUX installations supported by MPW-A. Study the aspects of equipment interchangeability and upgrade planning. Develop process improvements that support both the business and engineering teams in rapid access to accurate and current information regarding installation configurations.

- Rapidly (often within hours or days) respond to and support daily incoming transactional/LTSA customer requests for quoting/ordering GT, ST, and/or AUX parts, primarily via part clarification, part definition, and/or part publishing (i.e., from PLM system to ERP system).

- As needed, remotely (via company-issued smartphone and laptop) provide rapid same-day “on-call” support outside of regular business hours (generally including nights, weekends, and holidays) when assigned in advance to do so via internally-maintained “on-call schedule/rotation” (typically for one continuous week, once every one to two months), in order to urgently support active planned/forced outages at customer sites physically serviced by MPW-A.

- Assist with onboarding and developing less-experienced (typically “Engineer I, Configuration”) team members, including (but not limited to): providing training (one-on-one and/or in group sessions); hosting on-the-job shadowing sessions; writing/reviewing work instructions; creating/presenting/recording presentations; and/or reviewing/approving other team members’ tasking and deliverables.

- Occasionally propose and/or lead various “special projects” aimed at proactively improving the efficiency and quality of the team’s processes and deliverables.

- Support ISO 9001 audits and compliance efforts.

- Limited overnight travel (typically less than 5% annually) by land and/or air, with some trips lasting one or more week(s).

- Perform other such duties as may be required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

- Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures reporting all unsafe activities to Management and/or Human Resources.

- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

- Actively contributes to building a positive and collaborative team spirit.

- Communicate effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, as well as external parties.

- Diligently protects all confidential information by not communicating it, disclosing it to, or using it for the benefit of third parties.

- Maintain the highest degree of honesty and integrity at all times.

Requirements

- Language Skills: Strong proficiency/fluency in all of the following English language skills are required: ability to verbally and digitally (via typing/text/etc.) communicate effectively with coworkers, management/leadership, and other members of the organization; ability to accurately read/hear, interpret, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, memos, reports, engineering drawings/specifications, and other technical documentation in a timely manner; ability to write professional business correspondence (including, but not limited to: e-mails; reports; meeting minutes; work instructions; and formal engineering dispositions); and ability to effectively present information (including highly technical content) in one-on-one and group situations to other employees of the organization. Though not required, additional proficiency/fluency in Japanese language skills (particularly a working knowledge of technical/engineering Japanese vocabulary, especially regarding manufacturing and/or the power-generation industry) is highly desirable.

- Reasoning Ability: Ability to accurately adhere to provided instructions and expectations, as well as (when appropriate) make judgment decisions based on specifications, technical requirements, and other applicable resources/guidelines.
