Job summary
The communications and community relations intern will coordinate the NoCo Time Trials, a solar and battery model car competition for middle school students from the Northern Colorado region. This event supports STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education, inspires and encourages students’ pursuit of careers in the energy industry and introduces them to the same noncarbon energy technologies Platte River is pursuing to decarbonize its energy portfolio. This position will lead planning efforts and related logistics for an event that hosts approximately 400 guests and 20-25 staff members.
Schedule and environment
This six-month internship is expected to begin in January 2026 and is eligible for hybrid work within a commutable distance of Fort Collins. This is a part-time internship of no more than 29 hours per week. Due to the nature of this internship, some physical effort typically associated with event planning may occasionally require lifting and carrying light to medium-weight objects, plus walking or standing as needed.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Plans and executes the 7th annual NoCo Time Trials event.
- Coordinates event logistics with team members, including communications, planning, scheduling, inventory and supply management and vendor coordination.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Required:
- Ability to work efficiently in Office 365, specifically in MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong ability to multitask.
- Ability to manage and meet competing deadlines.
- Ability to have good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Curiosity about STEM education related to the energy industry.
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups and giving presentations.
- Completion of two or more communications and marketing courses at a college or university.
- Be actively pursuing a degree in business or communications.
- One year of general work experience (professional environment preferred).
Pay
This is a part-time internship that works 29 or less hours per week; wages are paid bi-weekly.
- $20 to $25 per hour, dependent upon candidate qualifications
