Equipment Operator – Highway & Roadside Commercial Tractors and Mowers
DEMS Infrastructure is hiring experienced Equipment Operators for a large-scale highway and roadside maintenance project in Montgomery County, Texas. This project covers 25 distinct tracts spanning over 26,000 acres, requiring expert-level roadside mowing, vegetation control, litter removal coordination, and traffic safety management.
The project is structured into 8 mowing cycles over a 2-year period, with operations along major highways such as SH 242, SH 105, and FM 149. Due to the project's complexity, we require operators skilled in highway mowing operations, safety compliance, and equipment transportation to ensure smooth execution and minimal disruptions.
Operators will play a critical role in:
•Roadside Mowing & Vegetation Control – Ensuring all designated areas are mowed to visibility and safety standards.
•Litter & Debris Removal Coordination – Working alongside litter removal teams to prepare sites before mowing.
•Traffic Control & Safety – Implementing safety protocols in high-traffic areas, especially along complex tracts.
•Environmental Compliance – Operating with care to minimize environmental impact and adhere to regulations.
This position requires a high level of precision, efficiency, and safety awareness to ensure consistent quality across cycles while adapting to unforeseen challenges.
Job Responsibilities
•Operate and maintain John Deere 5100E and Kubota M5-111 tractors and mowers for large-scale highway and roadside mowing.
•Execute precision mowing operations along major highways while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards.
•Inspect and maintain tractors, mowers, and other related equipment, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition.
•Transport equipment between job sites using appropriate hauling methods, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations.
•Implement traffic control measures when working in high-traffic zones, collaborating with traffic safety teams to prevent hazards.
•Coordinate with litter and debris removal crews to ensure clear work areas before mowing begins.
•Troubleshoot and address minor mechanical issues to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency.
•Adapt to changing project requirements and work efficiently within scheduled mowing cycles.
Qualifications & Experience
•Proven experience operating John Deere 5100E and Kubota M5-111 tractors and mowers in a highway or roadside maintenance setting.
•Strong knowledge of roadside mowing techniques, vegetation control best practices, and safety compliance.
•Experience with highway traffic control measures and working in high-traffic zones.
•Ability to transport heavy equipment safely between job sites (CDL preferred but not required).
•Familiarity with TXDOT roadside maintenance regulations and environmental compliance standards.
•Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on tractors and mowing equipment.
•Willingness to work in various weather conditions and adapt to changing project demands.
