We are currently looking for a CNC Programmer to join our busy and growing manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be engaged in elevating the department and company to the next level. The incumbent will be forward looking and thrive in a culture of continuous improvement.

Reporting directly to the Machine Shop Supervisor, the CNC Programmer role is combination of the role of CNC Machinist that will operate the assigned CNC Machines including mills, lathes, and drill presses and when applicable or assigned, the person will perform the duties of the CNC Programmer. The duties of CNC Programming is considered an infrequent ad-hoc position that lasts the length of time assigned to the defined duties.
- Ability to operate most CNC machines safely as per manufacturers and Romet requirements as defined by the skill level guidelines below:
- Operate Level 1 CNC machines as directed by the Supervisor/Manager
- Read drawings
- Use precision gauges and measurement instruments
- Use machine shop tools
- Efficiently produce parts to required tolerances
- Adjust tool offsets
- Deburr machined parts as required
- Operate some manual machines such as; drill press, saw, etc. as directed by the Supervisor/Manager
- Daily and weekly maintenance
- Follow quality control practices in an ISO environment
- Wear personal safety equipment as required
- Maintain 5S practices
- Record keeping as directed by Supervisor/Manager
- Housekeeping as required
- Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor/Manager
Level 2 (includes Level 1 plus the following):
- Ability to operate Level 2 CNC machines
- Ability to independently set up Level 1 CNC machinery
- Program editing skills
Level 3 (includes Level 1 and 2 plus the following):
- Ability to operate most CNC machines
- Ability to independently set up most CNC machinery
- Problem solving skills
- Proficiency in manufacturing custom parts
- Set up and/or program most CNC machinery
- Carry out small repairs/modifications on tooling and fixtures to improve functionality and accommodate new parts
- Read and interpret engineering drawings or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations, tooling arrangements and settings, speeds, and feeds in accordance with materials to be machines, type of machine and capacities
- Plan, organize and formulate programs for CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers using Mastercam or conventional G codes
- Develop 3D models as required
- Identify cutting tools as required for the job
- Look after tooling maintenance and maintain cutting tooling inventory
- Set up and program machine tools and fixtures for new projects and hand over to machining operators once approved by Quality Inspector
- Strong problem-solving skills – must be able to troubleshoot tooling, programming, and controllers to recover after incidents
- Proficiency in manufacturing custom parts
- Work with quality inspectors to obtain first-offs
- Initiate a carry out process improvements as it relates to:
- cycle time, improvement
- material flow improvement
- tooling and processing improvements
- Train the other operators on:
- operating CNC machines safely and efficiently
- setting up machines
- carrying out preventative maintenance on the machines
- Carry out daily and weekly maintenance on machines and basic repairs as required
- Assist Team Leads and Supervisors when needed
- Must have a sense of urgency to get the jobs completed on time
- Follow quality control practices in an ISO environment
- Adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Willing to work overtime when required
- Maintain 5S practices
- Record keeping as directed by the Supervisor
- Housekeeping as required
- Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
- Must be at a Level 3 Machine Shop Operator/Machinist - must have a minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience as a Machinist as per the skill level guidelines below:
- Level 1 – must have a minimum of 0-1 years of experience as a Machinist
- Level 2 – must have a minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a Machinist
- Level 3 – must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Machinist
- Must have similar level experience with CNC machining set-up and programming
- Must be very familiar with Fanuc, HAAS and Mazatrol controllers
- Must be mechanically inclined
- Must be able to use various machine shop instruments
- Must have Mastercam experience or other related software
- Poses excellent organizational and analytical skills
- Good communication skills both written and verbal in English
- Must be able to read engineering drawings and specifications
- Use precision gauges and measurement instruments
- Use machine shop tools
- Certificate/Diploma or related work experience
- Machining Courses or equivalent experience within a machine shop
- Must have CNC programming experience on 3, 4 and 5-axis equipment.
