Machinist
Job Summary
Operates machine tools of various types to produce precision parts and tools from metal, plastic, or other materials.
Job Duties
- Fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders
- Measure, examine and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications
- Use of required gaging instruments and the application of such instruments
- Select and set cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools according to machining instructions or knowledge of metal properties
- Read, understand and interpret machining instructions, job orders and blueprints to determine dimensional specifications, sequences of operations, setups, and tooling requirements
- Complete all necessary documents fully and accurately
- Adhere to 5S standards (e.g., maintain cleanliness of work area, etc.)
- Follow all Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Perform work under minimal supervision
- Handle complex issues and problems and refer only the most complex issues to higher-level staff
- Possess comprehensive working knowledge of subject matter, including comprehensive working knowledge of computer skills
- 4 or more years of experience
- Ability to interpret work instructions
