The CMM Operator is responsible for operating CMM equipment to measure and inspect products to ensure they meet strict engineering specifications and quality standards. This role involves performing routine measurements, documenting results, and working closely with quality assurance and production teams to verify that parts are within tolerance and meet customer requirements.
- Set up and operate CMM systems to perform inspections of aerospace components. Use CMM machines to measure parts and verify dimensions, tolerances, and other critical features.
- Conduct first article, in-process, and final inspections based on engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to ensure parts meet quality standards.
- Record and maintain accurate inspection data, including measurements and any deviations found during the inspection process. Generate inspection reports for review by quality and production teams.
- Review engineering drawings and blueprints to ensure measurements are taken accurately and in accordance with part specifications. Report any discrepancies or deviations to the appropriate teams.
- Communicate inspection results and any quality issues with the quality control, production, and engineering teams. Assist in the identification of root causes for non-conformances and help implement corrective actions.
- Perform routine maintenance on CMM equipment, ensuring the machines are calibrated and functioning properly. Report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to supervisors.
- Follow all safety protocols when operating CMM equipment and ensure compliance with company safety standards.
- Assist in process improvement initiatives by providing feedback on the CMM inspection process and suggesting improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong understanding of CMM operations, including the ability to set up and operate various CMM equipment (e.g., bridge-type, horizontal, or articulating CMMs).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Familiarity with common inspection tools and methods, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measuring instruments.
- Attention to detail and the ability to accurately identify deviations or defects in parts.
- Good communication skills to report results and collaborate with other team members.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical certifications in metrology or quality control preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CMM machines, preferably in an aerospace or precision manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with quality management systems and adhering to industry standards (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001) is a plus.
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during CMM inspections and equipment setup.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to operate inspection equipment and handle components.
- Ability to lift and carry materials or components weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with varying noise levels and conditions.
- Ability to focus on detailed tasks and measurements for extended periods of time.
· Reasonable accommodation may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
