In partnership with Metrolinx, ACCIONA is playing a key role in the design and construction of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE), a 9.2-kilometre westward addition to Toronto’s Line 5 light rail transit network. This major infrastructure project includes seven new stations and installation of rail and systems under a progressive design-build model.

Beyond its technical scope, the ECWE project represents a significant investment in sustainable urban mobility, expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 5,800 tonnes annually and eliminate over 6.5 million vehicle trips each year when combined with the full Line 5.

The Civils Senior Estimator will support the pre-construction and delivery phases of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension LRT. This role is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates and budgets for all major civil works, including tunnels, stations, bridges, retaining walls, and earthworks. The estimator will collaborate closely with engineering, design, procurement, and construction teams to ensure cost certainty and effective risk management across the project lifecycle.

Job Description Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil works including tunnels, stations, bridges, retaining walls, earthworks, utilities, and drainage systems.

- Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and BIM models.

- Develop and maintain unit rates for excavation, concrete, structural steel, shoring, and other civil components.

- Collaborate with designers, engineers, and construction managers to validate constructability, sequencing, and methodology impacts on cost.

- Support value engineering exercises by identifying cost-saving alternatives and constructability improvements.

- Analyze subcontractor/vendor pricing and provide bid evaluations.

- Support tender preparation and submission for design-build or P3 infrastructure contracts.

- Participate in risk and contingency analysis, particularly for geotechnical conditions, underground works, and large-scale civil structures.

- Track and update market trends in labor, materials, and equipment for civil construction.

- Provide input for project budgets, cost planning, change orders, and claims.

Required Skills And Competencies

- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline is preferred.

- 10+ years of experience in estimating civil works, preferably for major infrastructure projects (LRT, subway, highways, bridges, or tunnels).

- Strong understanding of civil construction methods, geotechnical works, and large-scale structures.

- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., CostX, HCSS HeavyBid, Sage Estimating, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.

- Familiarity with BIM/Revit/Civil 3D for civil take-offs is considered an asset.

- Demonstrated ability to work under tight deadlines in a collaborative environment.

- Strong communication and analytical skills with high attention to detail.

Competencies

- Expertise in civil estimating for tunnels, stations, bridges, and earthworks.

- Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and sequencing for complex civil infrastructure.

- Vendor/subcontractor engagement and evaluation skills.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

- Proactive problem-solving and team collaboration.
