ROLE:
The Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for large-scale oil and gas infrastructure projects, including pipelines and facilities. This role requires expertise in evaluating bid specifications, performing take-offs, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure competitive and profitable bids. The Senior Estimator will play a critical role in the preconstruction phase, providing key insights into project costs, risks, and opportunities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze and interpret project plans, specifications, and contract documents to develop accurate cost estimates.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing using estimating software and databases.
- Lead the preparation of bid proposals for large-scale oil and gas infrastructure projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with client requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams, procurement, and subcontractors to obtain pricing and validate cost assumptions.
- Assess risks, constraints, and opportunities associated with project estimates and recommend strategies for cost optimization.
- Review historical data and market trends to develop unit pricing and cost benchmarks.
- Work closely with the procurement team to evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids.
- Support value engineering efforts to optimize project costs while maintaining quality and performance standards.
- Assist in post-bid negotiations, scope clarifications, and contract award processes.
- Maintain and update cost databases, ensuring alignment with current industry pricing and trends.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and other team members.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (preferred). - Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or membership in AACE International.
- 7+ years of experience in estimating, preferably in large-scale oil and gas infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, labor productivity, and equipment costs.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Hard Dollar, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with project scheduling software (Primavera P6, TILOS) is an asset.
- Experience working with different contract types, including lump sum, unit rate, and cost-plus contracts.
- Understanding of the oil and gas pipeline construction industry.
- Ability to read and understand relevant construction documents including contracts, drawings, specifications, subcontracts.
- Understanding of estimating & project management theories, methodologies and industry practices.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and organizational skills for client, vendor and internal facing discussions.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent position based at our Calgary or Spruce Grove office with a 5-day work week, 8-hour days. Travel to project sites may be required.

The Senior Estimator reports to the Head of Estimating.
Expected Compensation Range: $110,000 – $145,000
