Job Summary
Hastings Utilities Contracting Ltd. is seeking an experienced Civil Foreman with a strong background in utilities construction to oversee field operations on electrical and civil infrastructure projects. This full-time, on-site role involves managing the daily activities of crews, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and coordinating with stakeholders and project leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience in underground utility installation and civil infrastructure associated with electrical works. software.
Duties
•Supervise a crew of 1–10 workers, including laborers, equipment operators, and flaggers, ensuring all tasks are completed efficiently and to specification.
•Communicate job scope and updates clearly to the crew, as well as to the Project Manager and Site Superintendent.
•Manage day-to-day tasks related to: Building electrical duct banks, installing cable chambers, sidewalk and curb restoration, forming and pouring pole bases, Working with rebar and performing concrete repairs, and any additional tasks as required.
•Monitor workmanship and enforce quality standards across all construction phases.
•Conduct daily safety toolbox talks and field-level hazard assessments.
•Collaborate with the Safety Manager and Project Manager to uphold compliance with OHSA regulations and internal COR/OH&S Management programs.
•Ensure projects are executed according to plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
•Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy civil or utility construction, including underground electrical or telecom infrastructure.
•Proven ability to interpret and execute work based on civil and electrical utility plans, specs, and schematics.
•Hands-on experience with: Concrete forming and finishing (pole bases, sidewalks, chambers), Rebar placement and tying, and trenching and backfilling for duct bank installation, and any additional tasks as required.
•Familiarity with the restoration of public right-of-way (curbs, sidewalks, roads).
•Operating equipment is considered a strong asset.
•Valid G Driver’s License required; additional licenses/certifications are an asset.
•Ability to travel to various project sites as needed.
•Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends depending on project needs.
•Strong leadership, communication, and documentation skills.
