Job Description
The Driver position is responsible for safely transporting structural steel materials to various vending and job sites in and around Central Texas. This position involves ensuring the safe loading and unloading of materials while securing them properly for transportation. Drivers will comply with all state, federal, and company regulations to meet safety and quality standards.
Minimum starting: $25.00 per hour - depending on qualifications and experience
Essential Functions:
•Secure materials by means of chaining, strapping, and blocking under strict accordance and established procedures.
•Perform pre- and post- trip inspections; inspect the truck for defects and safe operating conditions, before, during, and after delivery trips.
•Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicle.
•Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, and radiator fluid or performing minor repairs.
•Complete DOT-required drivers' daily log and trip sheets accurately without misrepresentation.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Knowledge and understanding of Motor Carrier Safety Regulations/DOT Guidelines.
•Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services.
•Knowledge of state regulations regarding weight standards.
•This includes meeting quality standards for services.
•Ability to maintain a clean driver’s record and diligent attention to safety.
•Ability to work safely, wear required PPE, and participate in all safety programs and commitments.
Physical Requirements:
•Must be able to remain in a stationary position 100% of the time
•Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
•Frequently moves materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
•Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina
•Ascend/descend with gradual or continuous progress by oneself, using both hands and feet and climbing up and down ladders
•Routinely reacts to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and is required to visually inspect work
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
•Valid Class A Commercial Driver License with no restrictions
•DOT Physical Examination (medical card) and Drug Screening
•Minimum 2 years’ experience operating tractor-trailer and hauling of materials on a flatbed. Prior military driving/hauling experience will be considered.
•Cannot have more than one (1) moving violation in the past three (3) years
•Cannot have any road preventable accidents within the past three (3) years
