The Category Manager will manage large and complex category and sourcing projects in various capital projects. This category management position will use category management and strategic sourcing methodology to bring best value to DC Water by conducting market research, vendor development, developing category and sourcing strategy, creating customized RFx documents, negotiating business deals and contracts, and managing business relationships with key suppliers and end-user departments. This position may also provide guidance and direction to lower level category and sourcing specialists.
Key Working Relationships: Interacts daily with vendors, local officials and department heads and other DC Water personnel.
The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.
Five (5) years of progressive experience in sourcing and contracting, or three (3) years of progressive experience in sourcing and contracting with a master’s degree in business, Technical or a related field.
A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Technical, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Strong project management experience and ability to project manage multiple complex projects.
Strong expert experiences in RFx process, proposal evaluation, deal negotiation, and contract negotiation.
Strong experience in Capital Programs, Engineering, Construction or Design-Build.
Strong and proven leadership experiences and ability to present and interact with executive levels.
Strong knowledge in computer (MS Word, Excel, PPT, Project).
Master's degree preferred in Business, Technical, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Prefer a Professional certification from the Institute for Supply management (ISM), APICS, the National Institute of Government Purchasing (NIGP), or National Contracts Management Association (NCMA), or the ability to obtain certification from any of these organizations within one (1) year of employment.
