This is a role for a Settlements and Confirmations Analyst for Canadian Lease Crude Oil trading activity.
- This role involves being the point of contact to our customers for all items relating to the Contracts and Settlements of Canadian lease purchase transactions, as well as stream purchase and sale transactions at all major Canadian trading locations.
- Liaise daily with the Canadian Crude Traders, Schedulers and Middle Office teams on various items including deal entry, contracts, and payments.
- Responsible for validating the commercial details of all physical deals entered into Mercuria’s ETRM and for preparing and sending out Confirmations to counterparts, and reviewing all Confirmations received from our counterparts.
- Responsible for maintaining a list of approved General Terms and Conditions (GTC’s) and Master Agreements to use with each of our counterparties.
- Liaise with Mercuria’s legal department and other internal stakeholders as required when counterparties are seeking updates to GTC’s or Master Agreements.
- On a monthly basis, a major function of this role is to finalize the quantities and qualities of crude purchased from individual lease locations in Mercuria’s ETRM and generate the Producer Statement Invoice to be sent to our counterparts.
- In addition to reconciling lease purchases from Producers, this role is responsible for settling stream purchase and sale transactions and netting payments as required.
- Responsible for administering all other payments as it relates to the Canadian crude business including broker fees, transportation charges and equalization payments.
- Responsible for cash to ledger reconciliation through internal system (Clerk Dashboard)
- Responsible for the investigation and resolution of any payment fails by either party to the transactions and payment chasers.
- Willingness to develop new procedures as required and work with the Information Technology teams to automate functions in Mercuria’s ETRM.
- Develop and maintain strong professional and courteous relationships with various external business groups including Producers, Trading Counterparts and Pipeline and Terminal Operators.
- Provide analytical support to various internal departments including Treasury, Accounting, Credit and Tax.
We seek candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree and 5-10 years experience in the energy sector, with prior experience in the settlement of Canadian lease crude specifically. We require our Contracts and Settlements Analyst to be motivated with a willingness to take on new challenges. Although training and mentoring will be provided, the successful candidate must be able to work independently within a team environment. The successful Contracts and Settlements Analyst will also possess the following key attributes:
- Understanding of the Canadian crude trade cycle and various Canadian crude deadlines, specifically as it relates to invoicing, as outlined by the Crude Oil Logistics Committee (COLC).
- Understanding of Canadian crude pricing mechanisms.
- General knowledge of industry used GTC’s that govern Canadian crude contracts.
- Familiarity and ability to quickly understand month end documentation received from various Canadian Pipelines and Terminals.
- Ability to effectively manage high volumes of transactions with multiple counterparties under tight deadlines.
- Superior attention to detail in all areas of Contracts and Settlements and a proven ability to deliver results under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite and advanced Excel preferred. Proficient in ETRM’s and an ability to learn and adapt to new software.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with an ability to enhance and maintain relationships throughout the organization.
