Job Summary: The CAD Technician drafter responsible for producing foundational 2D basemaps and plan sheets for drawing sets that support our gas distribution and transmission projects. The CAD Technician I learns Nicor Gas drafting standards, contributes to drawing packages, and lays the groundwork for more complex design work.
- Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or equivalent related field.
- 2+ years preferred of drafting experience, preferably in gas utility field (open to recent grads).
- Proficient with AutoCAD 2D basics.
- Ability to read and understand CAD drawings, schematics and maps.
- Familiarity with GIS, GIS data formats (dwg, shp) and coordinate systems.
- Familiarity with other CAD software such as Civil 3D or Inventor is a plus but not required.
- Create basemaps from GIS exports, aerial imagery, survey data, etc. (provided data) for distribution and transmission projects.
- Create foundational drawing sets for distribution and transmission projects.
- Apply drafting standards such as symbols, line types, text styles and annotations to basemap packages for internal review.
- Collaborate with engineers and senior CAD technicians/designers to understand scope, resolve issues and ensure accurate basemap representation.
- Assist in redline process to ensure accuracy and compliance with DOT standards and requirements.
- Support development and implementation of CAD standards, drafting tools, and best practices across the department.
- Perform additional duties and assignments as required to support departmental and organizational objectives.
