The CAD Technician plays a key role in the development of technical drawings and design documentation for water and wastewater treatment facilities across Texas. Working under the supervision of engineers and senior design staff, this position is responsible for creating accurate, code-compliant, and constructible design documents using AutoCAD and other industry software. The CAD Technician ensures that all drawings conform to the standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and applicable county and municipal regulations. This role demands attention to detail, a willingness to learn utility layout and plant processes, and the ability to collaborate effectively within Quadvest, LP and with multidisciplinary teams.
- Develop entry-level 2D design drawings, plans, and schematics for water and wastewater treatment facilities using AutoCAD.
- Support the preparation of piping layouts, structural plans, process flow diagrams, and civil site drawings per project requirements.
- Assist in ensuring designs meet Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) criteria for water and wastewater systems (e.g., Chapter 217 and Chapter 290).
- Incorporate basic EPA codes and standards related to the Clean Water Act (CWA) and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).
- Apply direction from senior staff regarding county floodplain, access, and permitting standards.
- Coordinate with engineers, senior designers, and project managers to support design intent and construction milestones.
- Revise drawings based on direction from Project Managers and incorporate markups.
- Conduct basic drawing checks for scale, title block consistency, and layout accuracy.
- Revise drawings based on redlines and feedback in a timely manner.
- Organize and maintain up-to-date, version-controlled drawing files in accordance with Quadvest’s QA/QC protocols.
- Assist in drafting site layout plans and utility routing based on engineer input.
- Apply knowledge of trench depth, clearance, and grade flow as taught.
1. Effectively communicate to CAD Manager and Engineers on status of drawings.
2. Effectively prioritize commercial construction milestones with Quadvest operations and developer deliverables.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting or Engineering Technology preferred.
- 0–2 years of experience in CAD drafting (internship or school project experience accepted).
- Basic proficiency and/or willingness to learn 2D AutoCAD drafting, plan and profile sheet setup, and process diagrams.
- Understanding of utility and mechanical systems (training provided).
- Exposure to or interest in TCEQ rules for water (30 TAC §290) and wastewater (30 TAC §217) is a plus.
- Basic awareness of EPA and TCEQ standards (on-the-job training provided).
- Willingness to learn local permitting and utility conflict resolution practices.
- Ability to see 20-20 when corrected.
- Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a clerical nature.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
- Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
- Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).
- Regular work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- No overnight travel by land and/or air.
