Under the direction of the Strategic Relationships Director, the Business Account Advisor establishes and maintains a professional service-oriented relationship with United Power’s non-key account designated (NKAD) commercial and industrial (C&I) members, and participates in a variety of functions related to public relations, government affairs, and community engagement. This role functions as a responsive, knowledgeable point of contact for business member needs, including but not limited to energy usage, energy program(s) participation, and service coordination for United Power’s C&I members that do not meet the criteria for key account designation.
- Serves as the primary contact for NKAD C&I members and liaison for internal departments to increase member satisfaction.
- Develops productive working relationships with business members, identifying their evolving needs and providing solutions.
- Maintains business member profiles in the system of record and ensures current contact information and member preferences are updated. Develops, manages, and maintains internal documentation associated with NKAD C&I members’ interactions, projects, and escalations.
- Categorizes NKAD C&I members by risk, business type, usage, and service needs to guide relationship management and priorities.
- Coordinates internal and external resources to facilitate meetings for account specific service needs, strategic initiatives, or general concerns.
- Supports member requests by providing technical guidance and coordinates with internal departments (e.g., engineering, operations, energy solutions, billing) to address service issues or connect members with the right internal contact.
- Provides information and support related to energy efficiency, rate structure education, and available cooperative programs. Actively markets relevant programs and services to NKAD C&I members to improve energy management and operational performance.
- Provides technical aid and assistance and recommendations to NKAD C&I members to achieve the maximum benefit from the use of electrical energy and equipment. Works with the key accounts team, member services team, and other departments to solve problems and manage complex electrical questions.
- Identifies trends or events, which may present additional opportunities. Assists in developing program(s) enhancements, proposals, and services that will capitalize on these trends or events.
- Reviews billing data and energy usage trends for assigned accounts, providing routine explanations or escalating abnormalities to the billing team as needed. Assists members in understanding their billing, including demand charges and usage patterns. Works with appropriate internal resources on complex billing resolutions. May perform monthly or annual account reviews where appropriate.
- In collaboration with member services billing team, assist in the collection of NKAD C&I members’ past due invoices.
- Participates in community events and local business activities as needed to establish a visible presence within United Power’s service area.
- Attends relevant city, county, and business development meetings to stay informed about developments that may impact business members.
- Represents United Power at designated chamber of commerce and industry events to stay informed and build business member relationships.
- Stays current on energy technologies and energy-saving opportunities relevant to commercial and industrial members.
- May attend and participate in industry trade shows resulting in a greater understanding and improved relationships with assigned accounts.
- Provides general support to NKAD C&I members through field visits, basic service consultations, outage and rate communications, energy programs updates, billing assistance, and by addressing common reliability concerns; escalates technical or complex issues to appropriate departments as needed.
- Consults with internal departments such as system design, operations, and the key accounts team when handling more complex or strategic NKAD C&I member matters.
- Creates, expands, and maintains professional and productive working relationships with peers and stakeholders. Works collaboratively with colleagues and fosters a spirit of cooperation and inclusion in the workplace.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of good cooperative operations and business member engagement.
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in the electric utility industry, plus a minimum of three (3) years of electric utility or related industry experience in areas such as member relations, member service, account management, governmental relations, or community engagement.
Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license, or have the ability to obtain one upon hire, and have the ability to travel throughout service territory for member and business meetings.
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

- Must have ability to carry out effective member relations within the service area through participation in community activities.
- Knowledge of history of our designated service area is highly desirable.

- Must have the ability to listen, comprehend, and develop creative solutions to complex internal and external issues. Must be skilled and innovative in coordinating cross-departmental systems and procedures. Must possess strong organizational skills.
- Must have computer knowledge relating to Microsoft Office products.
- Must have aptitude in learning various computer software products related to member account information and providing service to the member.
- Must have demonstrated reliability, flexibility and availability to work within and outside standard business hours to meet operational needs.
- Ability to react to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned.

Maintains a positive rapport with members and peers; provides top quality customer service to C&I accounts.
- Forty percent (40%) of the time is spent sitting, thirty percent (30%) walking, and another thirty percent (30%) is spent standing. Lifting and/or carrying up to thirty-five pounds (35 lbs.) is done occasionally when taking required equipment to vehicle or to job site. Pushing and pulling up to fifty pounds (50 lbs.) is done when opening and closing cabinets, doors, and file drawers.
- Frequently required to operate controls of a vehicle and equipment requiring the use and dexterity of fingers, feet and hands.
- With the variety of duties in this position, climbing will be necessary on occasion.
- Balancing is necessary constantly when sitting, standing or walking. Stooping or kneeling may be done occasionally when getting into file drawers in the office or when on a job site with a member.
- Reaching and the use of hands and fingers is frequently required when driving a vehicle and working at a desk.
- Talking clearly in an ordinary tone is done constantly. Hearing ordinary conversation is always necessary while working with members and employees.
- Seeing near is frequently important when reading and writing. Seeing far, depth perception, eye accommodation, color vision, and field of vision are necessary when frequently driving a vehicle.
- Mental abilities that are very necessary to competently perform this job are alertness, precision, ingenuity, problem solving, persuasiveness, tactile discrimination, speaking ability, memory, creativity, concentration, judgment, writing ability, reasoning, imagination, initiative, patience, visual discrimination, and aesthetic sense. Abilities the job will require only occasionally are analytic and spatial perception.
This job is performed inside an office building fifty percent (50%) of the time and outdoors fifty percent (50%) of the time. While working outside the office, the Business Account Advisor may encounter hazards such as mechanical, dusts, odors, fumes, gases, inclement weather, and various creatures such as rodents and snakes.
The noise level is fifty to sixty (50-60dB) decibels eighty percent (80%) of the time worked, which is normal indoor conversation levels. The other twenty percent (20%) of the time, the noise level can reach between seventy to one hundred twenty (70-120dB) decibels.
