The Building Services Inspector will inspect contract and maintenance work to ensure compliance with fire panel notification, elevator preventive maintenance/repair, cafeteria, trash/recycling, pest controls, janitorial services to include striping/waxing and shampooing of carpets of all facilities throughout Shelby County; reviewing drawings and local/national code requirement for repair/upkeep; prepare and maintain various reports and records. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Inspect contracted work and employees for cleaning,
maintenance, material to ensure quality of work is achieved; notify appropriate personnel of work deficiencies and safety issues. Schedule, assign, coordinate/follow up work and maintenance for various contracts, inspections of elevators, fire alarm and suppression systems, vent hood systems in food service areas, housekeeping, trash pickup/recycle and portables. Ensure proper compliance with code regulations regarding elevators fire alarm and suppression systems and food service areas; inspect/answer calls regarding the fire panel alarms working in coordination with other departments for compliance with fire code requirements.
Coordinate work and inspect janitorial services, satisfactory level of services; oversee service contracts for food/snack vending, dust mops, pest control, music services, mobile sweeping, solid waste/trash removal, and paper recycling. Prepare and/or review paperwork such as invoice submittals and time. Review and verify invoices of contracted services prior to recommending for
payment to the Supervisor; assist in preparation of contract specification and budget process; participate in meetings with vendor and negotiations. Inspect all equipment for proper operation; ensure all areas are stocked to provided level of service needed for facilities. Investigate customer calls/complaints/concerns and correct as appropriate. Keep abreast of Division and area policies and
procedures, local and national codes regarding specific contracts and utilization of services. First responders in pandemic events that require safety of the Division. Perform other duties as directed.
Chemical Applicator Certification required. Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence.
Must have 2 -4 years in facility/building operations experience; experience with fire alarm systems, vending machines, pest control, cafeteria inspecting work and general contract management.
Must successfully complete Placement/Performance Exercises. Physical Demands: Works within all properties of the Division. Subject to standing/walking for extended periods, noise and operating machinery, low and high voltage equipment and irritating chemicals while making inspections; pushing/pulling/carrying furniture and boxes, and bending, stooping and crouching for extended periods when picking up boxes/paper, and cleaning floors; and ladder climbing. Requires heavy lifting/carrying up to 100lbs. Subject to 24-hours call.
