Brief Description
The
Auxiliary Plant Operator (APO)ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment at the Temple Power Facility in accordance with established procedures and under the direction of the Shift Lead or Operations Manager. The APO collaborates with owner representatives to uphold plant culture, drive business objectives, and maintain positive relationships with customers and the community.
The Temple Power Facility consists of two 766MW combined-cycle power blocks, each equipped with two Siemens SGT6-5000F gas turbines, one Siemens SST6-5000 steam turbine, three Siemens generators, and associated systems, including gas and electrical interconnections, water treatment, cooling systems, and auxiliary facilities. The plant is interconnected to Oncor Electric Delivery Company at 345 kV and operates in the ERCOT market.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor plant auxiliary equipment and systems during normal and emergency conditions.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure operational reliability.
- Monitor and troubleshoot process equipment in the field, generating work requests for repairs as needed.
- Maintain boiler chemistry and record operational data in daily logs.
- Utilize computer systems (DCS/PLC) to analyze and input data.
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and revising plant operating procedures.
- Participate in the facility’s safety program and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Monitor off-loading of ammonia and other bulk chemicals.
- Communicate plant system conditions clearly, both verbally and in writing.
- Support on-the-job training for other operators.
- Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies efficiently.
- Understand and execute equipment clearance and tagging procedures.
- Perform housekeeping duties and other tasks as assigned.
- Work independently without direct supervision when required.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and comprehend operating instructions.
- Proven ability to multitask and work effectively as an individual or team member.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for plant processes.
- This position requires extended working hours and varied shifts including weekend and holiday work. The ability to be “on call” may also be required periodically.

All plant employees must always work safely. Working at the power plant may require:
- Working in varied outdoor environments such as all-weather conditions, all noise levels, hazardous conditions, and on the full range of outdoor work surfaces.
- The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.) may be required. Work with hazardous materials may also be required.
- Working in proximity to high voltages and current with proper training and equipment, operating heavy equipment and rolling stock and entering confined spaces or hazardous environments may be required while often being exposed to equipment and machinery noises.
- Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, operation of large valves and other tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling or turning force, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
- Eye and hand coordination are required to operate switches, pushbuttons, and other controls.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
- All candidates will participate in the post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Summary
Applicants must possess a
valid driver's licenseand maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
