U.S. Pipe is seeking an Assistant Plant Manager for our U.S. Pipe plant in Bessemer, Alabama. At the direction of the Plant Manager the ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall operation of the Bessemer facility.
- At the direction of the Plant Manager manages and directs all production phases of Bessemer Plant operation through staff members.
- Ensures the efficiency of operations including controlling cost, development of the workforce, the safety of the workforce, the quality of the products, and the timely delivery of products to customers.
- Directs key managers and supervisors in production, casting, production control, packaging, and other related operations and administrative functions.
- Responsible for aligning plant objectives with the Sr. Manager of Alabama Works to be consistent with the Company and Corporate objectives; the development and the implementation of a strategic plan to meet the objectives; and the monthly and annual review of objective results.
- Responsible for working with the Sr. Manager of Alabama, works for the development of the plant’s annual operating budget; the implementation of a plan to achieve budgetary requirements; and the monthly and annual review of budgetary results.
- Ensures the efficiency of all production operations at the plant and ensures that all work is performed safely and that the plant is properly maintained and kept in a neat and orderly condition.
- Responsible for assisting in the development and supported implementation of a long-range capital expenditure plan.
- Ensures that the plant’s production centers operate in compliance with all governmental regulatory requirements.
- Reviews for approval all Personnel Actions affecting salaried employees needed for production at the plant.
- Monitors manpower utilization for production centers at the plant and reviews for approval all requests for increases in the workforce.
- Responsible for supporting the Human Resources function around the planning production facility headcount and following the Collective Bargaining agreements.
- Ensures that all products produced at the plant and shipped to customers from the plant meet quality and customer requirements.
- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Business, or Finance is required.
- 5 to 7 years’ previous supervisory or management experience in a fast-paced heavy manufacturing environment required.
- Solid knowledge of processes involved in the manufacture of ductile iron pipe is a plus.
- Knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial statements, including P&L, is required.
- Previous lean manufacturing experience is required.
- Previous experience motivating workforce through change management is required.
- Proven supervisory and management experience on all levels is required.
- Ability to plan and direct the workforce and ensure training and development objectives are being met.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet all required deadlines.
- Strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
- Good understanding of safety and the desire to follow all established procedures are required.
- Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint software.
- Previous SAP, Minitab, and SharePoint knowledge is a plus.
- The employee will be working in a plant environment with limited business travel, as well as requiring some work in the plant, thus exposing the employee to Foundry operations. The employee will be exposed (very briefly) to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
- The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, Walking, Balancing, Stooping, Kneeling, Reaching, Talking, Seeing, Hearing, and Sitting. The majority of the actions will be sitting.
