Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Area Manager to oversee traffic control operations in the central Virginia region. This individual will be responsible for leading field teams, coordinating with clients, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining high safety and compliance standards. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with hands-on traffic control experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage teams and multiple job sites effectively.
Key Responsibilities
•Oversee daily traffic control operations across multiple job sites within the assigned area.
•Conduct regular site visits to check on work zones and field crews to ensure compliance and performance
•Approve employee timesheets, manage time off requests, and support scheduling to ensure all jobs are properly covered.
•Ensure job tickets, JSAs, and DVIRs are completed accurately and on time
•Monitor driving behavior using Samsara, review driver scores, address violations, and coach as needed.
•Handle both customer and employee conflicts professionally and promptly
•Enforce company policies, maintain field compliance and carry out disciplinary actions with proper documentation
•Manage employee relations and support a positive work environment
•Maintain strong customer relationships and assist the sales team by identifying and reaching out to potential clients
•Supervise, train, and mentor field personnel; participate in hiring, onboarding, and terminating employees as needed
•Support the onboarding process by ensuring new crew members receive proper orientation, uniforms, and training
•Provide field leadership, problem-solving, and day-to-day crew oversight
•Track and report field equipment issues, coordinating with fleet or maintenance as needed
•Assist with scheduling to ensure job coverage and support emergency response when needed
•Support dispatch operations by confirming crew assignments are accurate, realistic, and aligned with job requirements
•Ensure compliance with local and state traffic control regulations
•Participate in performance evaluations and check-ins for field employees
•Support strategic planning and growth initiatives within the assigned area
QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredValid driver’s license with a clean driving recordVDOT Intermediate Certified
Experience
3+ years of experience in traffic control, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management roleSkills
Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
Proficiency in scheduling, documentation, and basic reporting tools.
Knowledge of DOT regulations, safety procedures, and traffic control best practices.
Other Requirements
Ability to travel throughout the assigned area and work in field conditions
Must be able to respond to emergency or after-hours calls when needed
