Accounting Manager – Construction/Contracting

Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager with a strong background in construction to oversee our accounting operations. This role will be responsible for managing all financial processes, including AR, AP, job cost tracking, financial reporting, and compliance. The Accounting Manager will lead a team of 4 accounting professionals and work closely with senior leadership to ensure accurate financial management and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial & Operational Accounting:
•Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including AP, AR, general ledger, payroll processing, and job costing.
•Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and industry-specific financial requirements.
•Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for leadership.
•Maintain internal controls and financial policies to safeguard company assets.
•Work with external auditors, tax advisors, and banks as needed.
Construction-Specific Accounting:
•Manage project accounting, including tracking costs, progress billings, and revenue recognition.
•Ensure proper accounting for retention, lien waivers, and subcontractor payments.
•Oversee compliance with contracts, change orders, and construction-specific financial requirements.
•Support project managers with budget tracking and financial forecasting.
Leadership & Team Management:
•Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 4 accounting professionals.
•Streamline accounting processes and implement best practices for technology driven efficiency – technology optimization and automation will be a big focus
•Collaborate with leadership on financial planning, cash flow management, and strategic decision-making.
Qualifications & Experience:
•Bilingual (Professional English & Spanish) required.
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA a plus).
•8+ years of accounting experience in the construction industry (general contracting, subcontracting, or related industrial/commercial services).
•Leadership experience managing an accounting team.
•Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition.
•Experience with construction accounting software (e.g., Foundation, Sage 300, Viewpoint, Procore, QuickBooks, or similar).
•Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
•Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
