Accountant/Sr/Technical/Sr Technical Accountant - General

The technical accountant, with limited supervision, prepares financial and business related analyses and research in such areas as financial reporting, revenue and expense performance, rate of return, depreciation, working capital and investment for company management, institutional investors, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and other governmental agencies. Responsibilities include preparing forecasts and analyzing trends in sales, finance, general business conditions and other related areas; assisting in the development of business policies, conducting special financial and business related studies and working with other departments in the preparation of analyses; and trains other staff as needed.

Report, analyze and interpret financial, regulatory and operating data for management and corporate functions. Such reporting analysis and interpretation may include product margin, cost analysis, profitability analysis, regional geographic assessments, pricing analysis and any other ad-hoc analysis of interest to management and business unit leaders. Develop, implement and update effective financial and operational information systems to meet both current reporting needs and future requirements. Provide the financial and operational areas with timely, accurate and meaningful information allowing them to better manage their areas of responsibility. Present results of research and analyses and provide recommendations in written and verbal presentation formats. Use PC based systems and software to compile and prepare reports, graphs and charts of data developed to include in the presentations. Compile and prepare information for regulatory filings and financial reporting. Responsible for special projects, developing appropriate financial models as necessary. Act as a resource/lead for accountants and senior accountants in reviewing work and providing information to enhance co-workers knowledge and skills. Participates/leads committees and task forces dealing with financial, regulatory and accounting issues facing the company or business units. Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning. Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. Communications / Contacts Internal - Departmental staff, business unit leaders/representatives, accounting managers, treasury and finance personnel, regulatory affairs cost of service department staff; and BHE corporate consolidations External - Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Corporate Noteholders, Kansas Dept of Health & Environment, Environmental Protection Agency, auditing firms, and IRS.

This is a multi-level posting. Candidates may be considered for any of the levels posted, depending on their level of experience and depth of expertise.

Bachelor's degree in accounting is needed for all levels. MBA or CPA preferred.

The Accountant position requires zero to two years of related accounting experience using computerized accounting systems. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

The Sr. Accountant position requires two or more years’ experience in accounting, financial planning, finance, public accounting or other related experience.

The Technical Accountant position requires four or more years’ of experience in accounting with emphasis in financial analysis.

The Sr. Technical Accountant position requires six or more years’ experience in accounting with emphasis in financial or regulatory reporting and financial analysis.
