Wood Finishing Apprentice

Visual Elements is a value-added manufacturer of custom retail fixtures, components and visual merchandising products based in Toronto. We work closely with designers and architects to create superior quality consumer environments and develop new products and finishes to meet the demands of a globally competitive retail sector. From full retail environments to a store fixture to retail shelving to a simple visual display, our custom fixtures become part of the retail environments of some of the most prestigious retailers worldwide.

The Wood Finishing Apprentice duties will include:

- Coordinate with the Lead Finisher to ensure seamless integration of painting with overall project goals.

- Repairing broken parts, removing imperfections, and filling in cracks.

- Removing old finishings and excess solvents.

- Sanding and smoothing the item in preparation for finishing.

- Applying primer, sealer, stains, and topcoats, urethane and lacquer.

- Inspecting product to ensure quality standards are met.

- Maintaining all finishing equipment.

THE SKILLSET:

- 1 -2 years’ experience in a woodworking shop, preferably in a store fixture environment.

- Relevant post-secondary training program or Apprenticeship.

- Wood working experience an asset.

- Experience with spray guns, colour blending, colour matching an asset.

- Proficiency in using hand tools and caulking equipment effectively.

- Ability to visualize projects.

- Able to follow written instructions and ability to read detailed shop drawings.

- Work independently or as part of a team.

- Able to work within tight deadlines without sacrificing workmanship.

- A positive attitude toward teamwork and strong relational skills.

- Strong attention to detail.

- Resourceful and a problem solver.

- Able to lift 50 pounds.

- Day Shift – 7:00a.m. to 3:30p.m.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
