Summary: Train Austin Employees and Possible Austin Employees proper welding technics along with reading blueprints, welding symbols, and a variety of topics related to welding processes. Compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of Welders Skill level throughout the Casper Facility. Monitor and evaluate individual weld tests. Support the use of Welding Procedure Specifications throughout the training and production process by using the technology of the power wave platforms & any other welding machine in use at this location. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Properly evaluate customer standards, determine testing procedures, training tools and choose equipment to be used by reading specifications and any special product requirements, engineering prints, work orders, test manuals, etc.,.

Confer with Engineers, Production personnel and the Continuous Improvement Manager regarding blueprints, testing procedures and communicates results to prevent and resolve quality assurance problems per welding in the facility.

During Training - Perform dimensional inspection of items such as but not limited to: fit ups, root gaps, assemblies, sub-assemblies, piece parts, angles, critical inspection points before and after welding. Utilize prints as a reference to ensure that items listed above are accurate and correct as laid out by the trainees being trained. Sign off inspection in audit sheets and log book.

Perform visual inspection of welded items in regard to training.

Operate ultra-sonic, magnetic particle testing equipment and dye-penetrant, to verify integrity of welds per training purposes.

Analyze test results and compare with specifications, direct trainee as to repair of defective welds, records and processes test data as required.

Calibrate test instruments according to specifications.

Computer literate, Microsoft Office products.

Exercise technical authority over training in process to assure its meeting specified standards of quality.

Always complies with all applicable safety guidelines by correcting hazards, informing Continuous Improvement Manager, or recommending guidance to coworker(s) to avoid injury or damage to employees or equipment.

Complies with applicable company policies and tool check out procedures.

Administer internal reclassification and new-hire welding tests, grades and evaluates results for recommendations to production supervision on placement of welders.

Demonstrate efficient knowledge of all welding processes and settings, such as but not limited to: FCAW, GMAW, GMAW-Pulse, GTAW, SMAW, Air-Arcing. Solid knowledge and experience with S-500 power-wave platform welding machines. Ability to act as a trainer for the power-wave and/or any other welding process used at Austin. Also answer questions that the welding trainee may have about the welding machines and their proper use.

Possess Ability and knowledge to program the power-wave platform and adjust any Welding Procedure Specifications that are loaded on the machine.

Understanding the development of Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) for the development of Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) per AWS D1.1 and other codes as needed.

ANSI approved steel-toed boots, ANSI approved safety glasses with side protectors, and ANSI approved class B hard hat and hearing protection are to be used. Welding hood, welding leathers, face shield, cutting goggles, fall protection devices and gloves are used as needed. Disposable respirators, and ANSI approved steel-toed boots with metatarsal guards are recommended.
