The Welding Technician performs structural and pipeline welds to support water utility operations, including tapping, line stops, and system repairs. This role ensures weld quality, safety, and reliability in field conditions and contributes to the integrity of critical infrastructure projects.
- Perform strong (SMAW) stick welding techniques on mild steel.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to determine project specifications.
- Utilize basic math skills to calculate dimensions and tolerances accurately.
- Operate hand tools and machinery.
- Conduct routine maintenance on welding equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with team members to meet production deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
- Proven experience as a Welder with proficiency in multiple welding techniques.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading and schematic interpretation.
- Familiarity with machining processes is a plus.
- Experience in operating forklifts is mandatory.
- Basic math skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
- Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.- 3+ years of Sage experience (preferred) - 3+ years of construction industry experience, underground utility construction (preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field (highly preferred)
- Equivalent related work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals
- Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of mouse; occasional reaching
- Lifting: Occasional lifting and carrying (15+ pounds)- Environment: Possible districtwide travel or statewide travel with potential exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration, and chemical and electrical hazards
- Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, sudden shifting priorities, and ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
