Responsible for the operation and maintenance of Water collection, pumping, filtration, treatment, chemical feed, instrumentation and controls systems located at:
•Lake Station Water Collection & Treatment Plant located at Edgemere Drive
•High Purity Water Generation Plant located at Building 61
•Various Industrial Water, Fire-main & High Purity Water system components across the Eastman Business Park.
Essential Duties:
•Maintain Clear and Consistent Communication relating to the current status, performance and needs of your assigned location with RED-Rochester team supervisor, maintenance planner and operations staff. Ensure all RED-Rochester customer communicated concerns are immediately communicated and appropriately responded to.
•Perform Laboratory Testing of water samples, as required, ensuring that appropriate Recordkeeping requirements are met (such as reportable items for NYSDOH, DEC, EPA or Others) and provided to the RED-Rochester Water (NY State Department of Health Grade 1A Operator certified) Champion.
•Evaluate operation and provide corrective adjustment to chemical feed or filtration systems.
•Perform Calibration and Maintenance on specialized water quality instrumentation, as needed for assigned equipment or systems.
•Assists Maintenance Planner to develop standard preventive maintenance routines to ensure maximum equipment uptime and lifespan is attained for all responsible systems.
•Assists Maintenance Planner to develop corrective (repair) maintenance job plans as needed to ensure all equipment repairs are completed in a timely basis to maintain all system redundancies for optimum emergency performance.
•Coordinates with Maintenance Planner, all shutdown planning (routine & emergency) for the execution of maintenance activities to include Customer end-user notifications.
•Complete all planned maintenance routines for assigned locations, documenting all actions within the RED-Rochester work order management system (MAXIMO®).
•Complete all assigned corrective maintenance actions, documenting all actions within the RED-Rochester work order management system (MAXIMO®).
•Assist with any Plant Overhaul, Upgrade or Modernization Activities being completed within assigned locations.
•Supervise any outside Contractor executing work within your assigned work location to ensure compliance with RED-Rochester safety policies and that the RED-Rochester standards for workmanship are maintained.
•Daily Operations and Data Management for assigned plants utilizing RED-Rochester Plant Logical Control (PLC) or Distributed Control System (DCS) Systems or Data Management Software (Emerson Ovation® , Wonderware®, PI®, Provox®, Delta-V® or others.)
•Assist in the development and implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental Plans related to assigned locations.
•Provide Operations department specific training for monitoring and emergency response for assigned areas of responsibilities.
•Oversee Chemical (Chlorine, coagulant, or bisulfite) Consumable and Repair Part inventory for area of responsibilities.
•Work, as needed within the larger team structure for Red-Rochester major emergencies or catastrophic failures.
Equipment Competencies, but not limited to:
•Heat exchangers, surge suppressors, vacuum breakers, air compressors, air dryers, valves, coagulant & chlorine pumps, high and low lift pumps
•Turbidity Meters, Chlorine Analyzers, conductivity meters and other specialized instrumentation
•Rapid sand filtration, Brine tanks, Resin systems, RO, Water softeners, UV Sterilizers, membrane or media filtration systems.
•Lake Intake, sludge collection & backwash systems

Education and/or Experience:
•5 years of applicable water treatment or high purity water generation experience.
•Applicable Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
Qualifications or Licenses:
•Must obtain the NYS DOH Grade-D certification for chemical treatment within 12 months
•Must work towards the NYS DOH Grade 1A Operators Certification (up to 10 years)
•Must obtain required safety operator licenses, as needed for fork truck, man lift and scissor lift within 12 months (Employer Provided)
•Immediately obtain OSHA 10hr certification.
•Must obtain OSHA 30hr certification within 12 months.
•Must obtain OSHA HAZWOPER 40hr certification within 3 months.
•Must have an unencumbered valid NYS drivers’ license
•May obtain the Rochester city S-3 Operating license within a 12 month period.
Work Environment
•Working outside in all weather conditions from street level to roof tops.
•Working inside in extreme conditions from basements to rooftops and above including inspections of cooling towers.
•Possibility of temperatures ranging from extreme cold to over 100 degrees.
•Work will take place in chemical areas, noisy areas and areas that may be very dirty. Also will be operating heavy-duty machinery and vehicles including, Boomlifts (Manlifts), scissors lifts, fork trucks and power-walkie trucks.
Physical Demands
•Position requires strenuous effort, climbing, stair climbing, and crawling to accomplish equipment isolation and movement of material
•Lifting and carrying of a variety of equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is sometimes necessary along with moving refrigeration cylinders and chemical drums weighing more than 50 lbs
•Potential to enter manholes underground (Confined spaces) and the Utilities tunnels
