Incumbents in this position are responsible for supervising and participating in the operation of wastewater treatment facilities. This position is assigned to pay grade R30.
- Develops plans and programming, formulates budgetary data, assigns job duties, conducts employee evaluations, prepares contractual obligations, develops educational safety curriculum, and reports parameters as they relate to the overall performance of the plant.
- Coordinates with maintenance supervisor on equipment repair needs.
- Maintains inventory of parts, equipment, and chemicals.
- Monitors SCADA system and evaluates plant processes.
- Prepares required reports.
- Check lab results.
- Informs personnel of changes to operating parameters, state regulations, and CFPUA policies.
- Provides tours to groups, organizations, state officials and regulatory agents.
- Inspects plant systems to ensure compliance with safety regulations, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of the department budget.
- Participates in the plant safety program.
- Prepares and/or processes purchase orders.
- Accountable for inventory/property management.

- Associate degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering or any related course study.
- Three (3) years of professional work experience including managerial experience in a utility in collections system, water operations, wastewater operations or any related work field.
- High school diploma or GED with five (5) years of related experience in lieu of associate's degree.
- Grade "2" Wastewater certification is required.
- Requires Grade “3” Wastewater certification or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
- Wastewater Collections certification is preferred.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina driver's license.
