Summary:
Under the direction of the Team Lead, the Utility Operator- Pipe Crew is responsible for performing tasks on a pipe crew to support the operations on a client site in a safe, productive, and efficient manner according to the scope of the project and the work method being performed. The pipe crew operator will also clean/maintain the equipment and assist with any labour tasks and comply with all policies and procedures.
Key Focuses:
- Assemble and disassemble piping couplers and flanges, provide assistance to the welders as needed in the tailing’s areas on site.
- Assisting operators with pipe installs and packing expansion barrels.
- Physical tasks include lifting couplers, and blocking during all yearly outdoor weather conditions.
- Perform manual labour as needed; fueling/lubing, basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and servicing, manual material handling, and any other labour tasks as required.
- Operate heavy equipment as needed; excavator, loader, dozer, zoom boom, side boom.
- Assist with road building, grade checking, machine spotting, ground works, basic site preparation, ongoing monitoring, and general cleanup.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, provide suggestions for improvement and safety.
- Advise Team Lead or Shift Supervisor of any required maintenance or repairs of the equipment.
- Maintain a safe disposition at all times, ensure the safety of the client site and more importantly, the safety of fellow personnel/drivers. Freeze the scene of any potential or actual incident.
- Comply with all policies, procedures, and requirements as laid out by the client at all times while on the worksite
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is required
- Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license and clean three (3) year drivers abstract is required
- Computer skills required
- Bear Awareness, Rigging, Overhead Crane, Confined Space and Fall Protection is required.
- Candidates with Ground Disturbance are an asset.
- At least 1-3 years of verifiable experience in an equipment operating role within an Oilsands Mining, Civil Construction, Earthworks, or underground Utilities environment is required.
- Experience with various pieces of heavy equipment such as a Dozer, Excavator, Loader, Zoom Boom, or Side Boom is required.
- Use of various hand and power tools is required.
- Previous experience assisting pipe crews and welders, working on site with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of assembly of underground sewer and water parts and fittings.
- Specific training in Heavy Equipment or verifiable hours on specific equipment is an asset.
- Physically fit, able to perform labour/lifting tasks as needed.
- Ability to take direction and carry out instructions with occasional conflicting priorities and changes on short-notice is required.
- Focus oriented, with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain constant awareness of surroundings, in varying weather conditions.
- Strong commitment to safety, including personal safety, safety of co-workers, and the protection of FMGOC and client’s property in accordance and compliance with company practices, industry standards, and government regulations.
- Moderate understanding of vehicles, heavy equipment, basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Valid CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO is required
- Ability to speak, write and read English is required
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray- Syncrude site.
Shift schedule; 6 on 6 off; 12 hour days
