Utility Manager
The Utility Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and long-term planning of the Inframarks wastewater treatment, collections and distribution systems, and utility locating services team in Opelika. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, promotes operational efficiency, and leads a team of skilled professionals in delivering reliable utility services to the community.
Responsibilities
Wastewater Operations
- Manage the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant.
- Ensure compliance with ADEM and EPA regulations.
- Monitor treatment processes and implement improvements for performance and sustainability.
- Maintain required documentation and reporting for regulatory agencies.
- Oversee the maintenance, repair, and expansion of water and sewer infrastructure.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
- Coordinate emergency response to system failures and service disruptions.
- Supervise meter services, line repairs, and customer service-related field operations.
- Supervise utility locating staff to ensure accurate identification of underground assets.
- Coordinate with contractors and internal departments to prevent damage to infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with Alabama 811 requirements and maintain accurate records of locate requests.
- Supervise and mentor utility staff, including operators, technicians, and locators.
- Prepare and manage operational budgets and capital improvement plans.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols and training programs.
- Collaborate with city departments, contractors, and the public to support utility operations.
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Environmental Science, Engineering, Public Administration) preferred.
- Valid Alabama Class IV Wastewater Operator License required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in utility operations, including supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of water/wastewater systems, utility locating practices, and regulatory compliance.
- Valid Alabama driver’s license.
