Summary
As a Utility Locate Technician, you will be essential in identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe construction practices. Reporting to the Field or Project Manager, your core skills in utility locating and field service will be vital in preventing damage during excavation. Additionally, relevant skills such as blueprint reading and construction site experience will support your contributions to our projects. Duties/Responsibilities:
•Perform subsurface utility investigations using electromagnetic locators. An understanding of ground penetrating radar (GPR), GPS, and mapping is a plus but not required.
•Accurately locate and identify underground utilities, such as gas, electric, water, and telecommunications lines.
•Prepare and interpret field sketches, utility drawings, and as-built data.
•Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other field staff to ensure accurate reporting and safe excavation practices.
•Ensure all work complies with safety protocols and industry standards.
•Assist with the preparation of reports, deliverables, and field notes.
•Maintain equipment and vehicles in a clean and functional condition.
Education/Experience:
•High school diploma or GED equivalent
•1-2 years of experience in SUE, utility locating, or a related field is required.
•Familiarity with SUE methods, including QL-B, QL-C, QLD and QL-A is a plus.
•Must be familiar with standard locate marking protocol.
•Interest in learning and professional improvement is required.
•Ability to read and interpret construction and utility plans.
•Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
•Positive attitude and ability to discuss findings with clients.
•Willingness to work in various weather conditions and travel to job sites as needed.
•Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
•Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and/or background check
Physical Requirements:
•Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
•Ability to carry required instruments and equipment
•Ability to lift 50 pounds
•Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
•The worker is subject to variable climate and environmental conditions including but not limited to extreme cold and heat.
Additional Information:
•This role is on an as needed, project basis.
•Qualified candidates may have the opportunity to move into an ongoing full-time role.
•Hourly employee and/or 1099 independent contractor will be considered.
