POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, performs the full range of daily and advanced functions for a variety of record keeping, and payroll activities related to administration, maintenance, and processing of payroll records in an accurate and timely manner. Work consists of processing payroll, computing wages and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions of various types, processing a variety of requests for paycheck advances, determining and correcting out-of-balance conditions, and processing termination checks. Contacts with others are primarily for the purpose of receiving and exchanging information and require courtesy, tact and effectiveness in dealing with others.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Serve as the subject matter expert on payroll administration and processing matters.
•Stay current on local, state, and federal regulatory changes, collective bargaining unit agreements, and external industry payroll processing best practices.
•Perform advanced research and provide historic information as required.
•Administration of garnishments of all types.
•Provide day to day technical guidance and on the job training to Payroll Associates as needed.
•Work with Payroll Analyst to ensure payroll processing procedures and work instructions remain updated.
•Responsible for maintaining, validating, and processing a variety of leave issues.
•Run, export, attach and submit a variety of payroll payment processing and contribution files.
•Identify, trouble-shoot and provide guidance to overcome unexpected issues that occur during processing.
•Maintains time and attendance records.
•Processes and verifies payroll, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreements.
•Computes wages and overtime payments including calculating and recording payroll deductions.
•Posts changes in pay and tax status, and any other miscellaneous changes.
•Processes employee data to include but not limited to pay changes, direct deposits, W-4 information, and other tax and payroll related changes.
•Processes bi-weekly payroll and reports and provides checks to proper departments for distribution.
•Interfaces with external and internal customers for payroll purposes.
•Reviews the work of others for accuracy and legal compliance.
•Calculates and prepares general ledger entries, and processes involuntary deductions such as levies, garnishments, or domestic relations' court orders.
•Determines and corrects out-of-balance conditions.
•Operates standard office equipment and uses required software applications.
•Performs other job-related work as assigned.
OPEN REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High school diploma and completed twelve (12) semester hours of college-level coursework in Accounting.
AND
Experience: Minimum five (5) years of experience processing payroll in a corporate environment.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Must have certification as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) from the American Payroll Association.
The starting pay for this position is $39.27 per hour.
