This job is in the Delivery family (Department), which includes positions the duties of which are to administer, supervise, or perform work involving the planning, directing, or operating of transportation equipment and service, including positions involving responsibility for driving, loading, and coordinating delivery.
- Responsible for overseeing and coordinating day to day delivery operations, supervising staff, ensuring appropriate training, understanding of processes, performance of duties and issues resolution.
- Assists staff with problems that occur during the loading or delivery of material.
- Coordinates activities of production and delivery.
- Implements compliance with company safety procedures pertaining to delivery.
- Ensures compliance with all government and traffic regulations including heavy weight permits, vehicle registration, and safety alert investigations.
- Reviews documents to ensure they are in accordance with transportation and shipment destination.
- Coordinates the scheduling or routing of equipment through approved locations for maintenance.
- Investigates complaints regarding lost or damaged material to determine responsibility.
- Follows company procedures to report any traffic incidents.
- Recommends measures to improve delivery methods and equipment performance.
- Suggests changes use of equipment to increase efficiency.
- Ensures staff have the information needed to do their job and follows up in a timely manner, as needed.
- Effectively leads group meetings with staff.
- Assists in the hiring process and/or makes recommendations.
- Ensures that staff are fully trained for the job they are performing.
- Motivates, mentors, trains, and develops staff.
- Prepares and conducts constructive and timely performance feedback for staff development.
- Addresses staff situations appropriately, when required.
- Responsible for securing backhauls and managing routing and interpreting shipping order specifications, if needed.
- Using a warehouse management system, systemically opens/closes shipments and prepares accurate bills of lading for outbound freight.
- Communicates with customers for scheduling of shipments.
- Ensures the accuracy of all shipping documents.
- Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.- 2+ years of relevant supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- High School / GED required.
- Advanced knowledge of laws and government regulations and/or agency rules pertaining to interstate transportation required.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
- Ability to plan work and establish clear directions to set objectives and distribute workload for staff required.
- Ability to effectively supervise, delegate, and coach staff required.
- Ability to set clear expectations, follow through, and ensure expectations / accountabilities are met required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
- Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including analysis, knowledge and experience, and judgment required.
