The
Transmission Safety Specialistplays a key role in
supporting a proactive, safety-first cultureacross Electra Grid Solutions’ transmission operations.
This hands-on field positionensures compliance with company safety standards and regulatory requirements while providing
real-time guidance and leadership to crewsworking on energized and de-energized systems. The specialist
serves as a trusted advisor and mentor, promoting safe work practices, conducting audits, and leading continuous improvement initiativesthat reduce risk and enhance operational safety performance.
- Conduct routine field safety audits and on-site inspections of transmission and distribution projects.
- Observe work practices to identify hazards and ensure compliance with company policies and OSHA, NFPA, and NEC standards.
- Coach and mentor foremen, linemen, and apprentices on safety protocols, PPE use, and risk mitigation.
- Lead and participate in daily pre-job briefings (tailboards) and reinforce hazard recognition and safe work procedures.
- Support field crews in real-time decision-making during critical or energized operations.
- Participate in and lead incident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Develop and deliver safety presentations and employee training sessions covering topics such as CPR, first aid, defensive driving, and hazard communication.
- Maintain accurate safety records, field audit documentation, and performance tracking data.
- Assist with the verification of task competence and help evaluate training effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Operations, Training, and Project Management to ensure job-site readiness and safety compliance.
- Represent Electra Grid Solutions during customer safety audits, project meetings, and regulatory interactions.
- Provide support during storm restoration or emergency response operations as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support safety and operational excellence.
- Complete random DOT drug screenings and rapid drug screenings for crews based on program needs. If not currently certified to conduct drug screening, willing to be certified.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Safety Management or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of field experience in utility transmission or distribution environments.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, NEC, and other applicable safety regulations. OSHA 10 or 30 preferred.
- Certification or training in CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Bucket Rescue, Defensive Driving, and HazCom preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Demonstrated experience in conducting safety inspections, training, and incident investigations.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills across all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend safety improvements.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally between Alabama and Georgia.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and during storm events.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven ground and active job sites.
- Must be able to climb ladders and access elevated work areas (buckets, structures, etc.).
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs when required (tools, PPE, or safety gear).
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
- Must be comfortable wearing FR clothing, a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and fall protection.
- Work involves exposure to outdoor elements, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Must maintain a full range of motion to perform physical demonstrations or assist crews.
- Close visual acuity is required for computer use, data analysis, and field observations.
- Field-based role requiring daily travel between multiple job sites.
- Work performed in all weather conditions and around high-voltage environments.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- May be called upon to assist during storm restoration or after-hours events.
- Must consistently adhere to PPE and safety requirements at all times.
