Aneden Consulting is seeking an experienced Senior Transmission System Planning Consultant / Project Manager to lead high-impact studies and consulting engagements for electric utilities, ISOs/RTOs, cooperatives, and other industry stakeholders. In this role, you will oversee and execute advanced transmission planning studies—including transient stability, power flow, transfer capability, reliability, short-circuit, and economic dispatch analysis—to support client decision-making and regulatory compliance. You will serve as a trusted advisor, engaging directly with clients to define objectives, design methodologies, and deliver actionable results. This is a senior client-facing and leadership role, requiring both deep technical expertise and strong project management skills. The ideal candidate is a seasoned consultant who thrives on solving complex challenges, mentoring teams, and ensuring deliverables that meet both technical and business objectives. This position is 100% remote, with limited travel (up to 10%). Work hours are aligned to the Pacific Time Zone (9 AM – 5 PM PST).
- Lead and manage transmission planning studies (stability, power flow, reliability, short-circuit, congestion management, etc.).
- Serve as primary client contact, driving project scope, methodologies, and deliverables.
- Provide technical oversight, quality assurance, and guidance to junior engineers and consultants.
- Prepare and present detailed technical reports documenting assumptions, methodologies, and results.
- Contribute to business development by supporting proposals, client meetings, and thought leadership.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to shape service offerings and enhance technical capabilities.
- Mentor and train less experienced staff, fostering knowledge transfer and professional development.
- Education:
B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field required. M.S. with 12+ years, Ph.D. with 8+ years, or B.S. with 15+ years of relevant experience in transmission planning, operations, or consulting.- Technical Expertise:
In-depth knowledge of transmission system planning processes, methodologies, and industry practices. Experience with transient stability, short circuit, voltage, production costing, TPL compliance, generator interconnection, and harmonics analysis.
Strong competency in PSS®E (required)
. Additional experience with TARA, Aspen, EasyPower, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, PROMOD is a plus. Familiarity with NERC, FERC, and ISO/RTO requirements and processes (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, NYISO, ISO-NE).
- Leadership & Consulting Skills:
Proven success managing complex technical studies and project teams. Ability to navigate challenges, resolve obstacles, and adapt approaches to meet client needs. Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience in client-facing consulting roles. Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior engineers.
- Other Requirements:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and critical thinking ability. Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Travel up to 10% as needed.
- Salary Range:
$180,000 – $200,000 annually
