Job Summary

The Transmission Line Engineering (TLE) team, under the Manager’s direction, is responsible for the engineering of the expansion, maintenance, and upgrades of all AEP transmission line facilities within Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Essential Job Duties:
•Plan, organize, supervise and otherwise manage the engineering and design of system transmission line facilities. Effectively utilize engineering consultants as required to accomplish work. Work managed includes external requirements of customers and joint ventures as required.
•Provide technical consultation and support as required consistent with internal expertise and organizational responsibilities. This includes providing analyses and evaluations in support of research and development, planning, operations and maintenance, and other activities as assigned.
•Interact and effectively communicate with Right of Way groups, Project Management, Construction management, Station Projects, and Operating Company staff to assure project and corporate goals are successfully met. Represent AEP at meetings with the public and governmental entities related to existing facilities and the implementation of new transmission improvements.
•Support the annual development of the capital forecast pertaining to AEP transmission lines in support of corporate and business unit strategy, in a manner which effectively organizes and addresses customer and public projects, planned system improvements, equipment failures, facilities rehabilitation, and other capital work.
•Effectively coordinate needs and support transmission and distribution planning groups, other engineering, operations, construction and maintenance group engaged in or affected by capital improvements to transmission line system.
•Maintain awareness of current Industry practices and participate in external committees and groups as required. Utilize and adapt this knowledge to best practices to be used on AEP system work.
•Ensure that all team members have the software, tools, support, etc. needed for completing projects in accordance with standards and corporate objectives.
•Clearly define performance expectations. Review and reward job performance within the organization to align individual performance with business goals. Administer effective job performance review and merit salary programs. Develop employee skills as required for workload, help employees to reach their potential and establish plans to set and achieve challenging career goals.
•Match resources to assignments to meet strategic needs. Provide for development and training of a young workforce. Utilize external resources to effectively support the team and the Capital Program
Qualifications:
•Proven leadership skills and experience in managing engineering teams.
•Strong understanding of transmission line engineering and design processes.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Basic Qualifications:
Education requirements are listed below:
•Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET college or university.
Work Experience requirement listed below:
•Ten (10) years of electric utility engineering experience, with five (5) years of Line engineering experience.
Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:
•Registration as a Professional Engineer in any state of the U. S. is required.
Other:
•Must be highly skilled in technology and computers.
•Must have effective oral and written communications skills including strong presentation skills.
•Physical demand level is Sedentary.

Compensation Grade:
SP20-010
Compensation Range:
$132,562.00-172,331.00 USD
