Job Description: Training & Development Specialist
REPORTS TO: People Development Manager
HOURS: 40 hours weekly (plus banked time), Monday-Friday 7:00AM-4:00PM
SUMMARY: The training & development specialist is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing all company training and development programs that align with the company’s focus on continuous improvement. They will assist with developing company-wide training policies and procedures, and ensure employees receive the necessary training to complete their jobs in the most efficient way possible. They are also responsible for organizing training activities outside of the workplace that may contribute to employee success within the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Manage and maintain the Tradesman Academy including content development, updates, and aligning the program with the company’s vision and goals.
•Coordinate appropriate training activities for new recruits and current employees.
•Conduct organization-wide training needs assessments and identify skills or knowledge gaps that need to be addressed.
•Schedule training for all levels of employees, including both internal and external courses.
•Track all completed training. Maintain updated curriculum database and training records to monitor compliance, measure effectiveness, and support strategic workforce planning.
•Follow-up with Managers/Supervisors/Team Leaders to ensure training schedules are followed.
•Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills and KPI’s.
•Support the development and rollout of certification programs aimed at standardizing supervisory competencies and promoting a culture of excellence.
•Lead the creation and continuous improvement of training curricula and instructional materials tailored to various roles within the organization.
•Facilitate in-house “Train the Trainer” and coaching programs to build internal capacity for mentorship, adult learning, and leadership development.
•Coordinate employee development training programs including on-the-job training, language courses, or health and safety courses.
•Evaluate training outcomes and provide actionable insights to improve program effectiveness and return on investment.
•Communicate with Department Managers to ensure their needs are met through any new policies that come into play.
•Ensure availability of course materials prior to course commencement.
•Ensure all course and/or training agreements are completed accurately.
•Ensure employees are provided all necessary information about any training sessions they’re scheduled to participate in.
•Investigate new training opportunities.
•Research possible funding/grant opportunities. Complete and submit funding/grant applications. Follow-up to ensure approved funding/grants are received.
•Monitor department training budgets and provide reporting to Management teams.
•Support with additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
•Post secondary education with a degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or Education preferred.
•Minimum 2 years experience in a training or educational role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
•Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, LMS/HRIS systems, and mobile technology.
•Proven experience in creating training materials is preferred. (i.e. manuals, SOPs, e-learning modules, videos, etc.)
•Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS)
•Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement is an asset

WORK ENVIRONMENT
•Working conditions are normal for an office environment, minimal noise with temperature controls.
•Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) if in the manufacturing facility to include but not limited to, safety glasses, steel toe foot protection, hearing protection, and hard hats.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
•Ability to lift/carry boxes/packages/parcels up to 20lbs (includes floor to waist lifting).
•Sitting for extended periods

•Periodic climbing (stairs)
•Repetitive use of hands/wrists with light grasping
•Occasional walking/twisting/bending/reaching above and below shoulder.
