Cardinal Energy Ltd. is an upstream oil & gas company with assets in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia. With a track record of sustainable energy practices and innovation in the oil and gas sector over the past 10+ years, Cardinal Energy is now entering the development of thermal heavy oil projects in Saskatchewan. We are currently seeking experienced Thermal Operators to help support the Reford Thermal Project.
As a Thermal Operator, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the Reford Thermal Project in Saskatchewan. Reporting to the Senior Foreman, you will be responsible for the operation of assigned equipment within wells, the battery, steam systems, or the control room. You will work closely with maintenance personnel and leadership to troubleshoot and resolve process issues, support production targets, and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental standards. This position is based out of Reford, SK, located ~19km south of Wilkie, SK.
· 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate or higher preferred; 4th Class will be considered.
· Minimum 2 years of thermal heavy oil operating experience.
· Proven knowledge and experience with steam generation systems, oil treatment processes, well operations, and willing to learn DCS system.
· Understanding of safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and environmental standards.
· Familiarity with writing Safe Work Permits and conducting field-level hazard assessments.
· Ability to interpret facility drawings such as P&ID’s, line lists, and shutdown keys is an asset.
· Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Outlook, Word).
· Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.
· Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
· Operate assigned equipment in wells, battery, steam, or control room to support safe and efficient production.
· Adhere to and perform all safety policies and procedures promoting a strong safety culture.
· Troubleshoot and resolve process issues to minimize downtime and maintain facility performance.
· Monitor and control plant conditions, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while maintaining accurate documentation.
· Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities to sustain safe and efficient operations.
· Participate in shift handovers to ensure clear communication of operational activities, maintenance requirements, and any process deviations.
· Conduct facility inspections and unit operating rounds to identify potential issues and optimize plant performance.
· Communicate effectively with operations team members, maintenance personnel, and leadership to align on daily priorities.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for facility optimization.
