Temporary Specialist, Strategic Reporting (Non-Union)

Are you a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in financial analysis and reporting? The Specialist, Strategic Reporting provides essential financial reporting support, including delivering monthly financial analysis and presentations to the Executive Management Team. This role involves collaboration with various business units across the organization and participation in special projects as assigned.
What you’ll do
Financial Reporting and Analysis:•Coordinate month-end closing activities, ensuring proper responsibilities and deadlines are established and met across departments.
•Prepare standard financial reporting packages and presentations for the Senior Leadership Team, Audit Committee, and Board of Directors, including financial statements and other required analyses.
•Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual schedules, perform variance analysis, and validate general ledger accounts, including elimination of intercompany accounts and balances.
•Prepare quarterly and annual IFRS financial statements with related note disclosures and Annual Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A).
Collaboration and Support:
•Provide guidance and support to the accounting team and other business units to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal processes and IFRS standards.
•Conduct research and analysis to support cross-functional finance teams on various ad-hoc technical accounting issues, assessing impacts on financial reporting activities.
•Offer financial data analysis expertise to assist departments in improving process and data quality.
Process Improvement and Efficiency:
•Identify and recommend improvements to processes or procedures to enhance the quality and timeliness of financial information and increase operational efficiency.
•Continuously enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the reporting process, including automating reporting tools.
Regulatory Compliance and Standards:
•Monitor IFRS developments, interpret, document, and recommend applications and implementations of these standards into work processes and key deliverables.
•Support the implementation of new accounting and financial reporting requirements under IFRS by modifying existing reports, models, databases, and systems.
•Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and Health & Safety policies, procedures, and standards.
Audit and Technical Expertise:
•Assist with external financial statement audits by preparing supporting documentation.
•Provide technical expertise in the planning, design, and implementation of projects and key initiatives.
•Manage the general ledger chart of accounts, including maintaining, updating, and mapping new accounts to ensure the integrity of financial reporting.

Who you are
Education & Specialized Knowledge
•Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
•Strong technical accounting knowledge of IFRS
•Superior proficiency with IT-based automated reporting tools
•Superior proficiency with Excel application
•Proficiency with other MS Office applications
•Knowledge of the energy and utility industries, including a solid understanding of the regulatory environment
Experience
•A minimum of 3 years related work experience including financial reporting and variance analysis
•Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
•Highly self-motivated and directed
•Ability to follow established processes with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy
•Solid problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex technical issues
•Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information in an organized and concise way
•Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
•Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
•Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license
