Apprentice Telecommunication Electrician II is a 2nd-level position to gain practical work experience in the Telecommunication Field. Apprentice will assist with, under direct to limited supervision of a Telecommunication Electrician C-A, basic installation, maintenance, testing and repair of various IT equipment and systems. The apprentice must complete a minimum of 12 months of on-the-job training and a minimum of 12 credit hours of technical training. The duration to complete these requirements is 12-18* months.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:* Understand and support the values, structure and behaviors of AEP and the IT Telecommunication organization.Education: High school Graduate, GED, or Associate Degree.Have an official High school, College or GED Transcripts. At least one year of High school algebra. Experience: Apprentice must have completed the requirements of an Apprentice Telecommunication Electrician III or equivalent experience. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills. Apprentice must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Apprentice must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
Physical Demands and Environment of the training: May be required to lift and carry items up to fifty (50) pounds. May be asked to work weekends and Holidays. May be called out after-hours to provide emergency support. May be required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and squat for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to differentiate between colors. Must be able to safely and effectively use all tools and test equipment's assigned for the performance of his or her duties. Some travel to pick up parts from various vendors. Apprentice will clean work area and maintain inventory.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
On-the-job training will consist of the following: NERC CIP / FERC Training Safety & Health Awareness OSHA/Safety Awareness Proper and safe use of hand tools and test equipment Category 5 wiring Structured wiring systems Site Infrastructure (Site equipment’s, Towers, Generators &HVAC systems. Tool Identification EIA/TIA standards Data Transmission fundamentals Data systems Electrical Test Equipment Local Area Network Procotols Grounding & bonding Documentation (Time entry, Inventory, Asset, Project mgmt’s….etc.)
Classroom training includes: The Apprentice must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours of annually telecommunication training from a nationally or regionally technical Institute or post-secondary school. The duration to complete this training is 12-18 months. The apprentice must satisfactorily complete each course with a final letter grade of a “C" or higher. The curriculum should consist of the following courses or equivalents: Digital Electronic. Basic Electronic. Electrical equipment & repair. Introduction to Microprocessor Local Area Network.

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: M – Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
