The Technology & Innovation (T&I) engineer will conduct and support projects that develop new products and processes. This support will include both the technical and operational aspects of product and process development using or following Stage Gate process.
The incumbent must be able to operate both individually and in teams and will support new product and process launches. The individual will be responsible to support Materion’s Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Sales, and Marketing teams; in addition, some customer support may be required.
- Help identify both potential projects for cost savings and new product opportunities
- Lead engineering improvement and/or new product introduction projects
- Provide technical support to internal and external customers
- Report on the progress and status of activities, including detailed writeups of completed projects
- Support other projects as required in accordance with T&I Group standards
- Develop an operational understanding of the company and our products
- Support cost analysis for new products
- Run projects according to the Stage Gate process utilizing Lean Six Sigma tools as applicable
- Monitor and measure focus and keep within established goals and objectives
- Develop SOPs, Work Instructions, Process Flow Diagrams, FMEAs, and Control Plans for new products and processes in cooperation with Operations/Quality
- Ensure that safety and process hazard reviews are conducted for new or modified equipment and procedures
- Conduct customer visits as needed
- Support the evaluation of new equipment and processes
- Work to protect and document IP
Travel up to 15% of the time, depending on business needs, could be required.
- Bachelors’ degree in engineering, materials science, or relevant field.
- Experience participating in engineering and product development projects, which may include internships and co-ops
- Demonstrated ability to successfully participate on technical and/or design projects and teams
- Good written and presentation skills
- Willingness and eagerness to learn and receive coaching
- Curious, asks lots of questions, and shares ideas willingly
- Experience including data acquisition or design, materials/chemical processing technology
- Proven product or process development skills
- 2-3 years of experience participating in engineering and product development projects (preferred)
Actual base salary offered varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
The candidate selected will have to qualify as either a U.S. citizen, a U.S. National, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a Person Admitted into the U.S. as an Asylee or Refugee., a National of a country that is not prohibited from having access to U.S. controlled technology (via a letter of assurance), or a Person to be approved for an export license by the governing agency whose technology comes under its jurisdiction.
