Position Summary

A career in Standards Engineering offers the opportunity to perform various engineering functions by developing, revising, and performing review and quality control of the Company’s operating procedures. You will ensure that all standards are created and maintained in accordance with federal and state regulations as well as industry best practices. These standards will be applied throughout the company for the construction, operation, and maintenance of gas distribution, transmission, and production facilities. Furthermore, you will assist Management in creating solutions to complex problems through critical thinking. The team also must act as Subject Matter Experts providing technical support to the operations function as well as other functional areas within SJI.

Essential Functions: Roles and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

- Develop, revise, and perform QA/QC of Company’s Operating Procedural Manual

- Ensure Company Standards are kept current with federal and state requirements as well as natural gas industry practices.

- Prepare material testing procedures and associated documentation.

- Distribute updated procedures to Company and Contractor personnel

- Maintain approved materials list and approved tools list

- Participate in Natural Gas Industry committees related to construction, operations, maintenance, tools, equipment and materials.

- Consistent with all positions in this classification, additional projects, tasks and/or duties beyond what is outlined here may be assigned as required.

This role will possess advanced knowledge of engineering and/or technical concepts, practices, and procedures. The successful candidate will work as the primary engineer and project manager on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects to be developed with others.

It is expected that the candidate for this role is proficient in most types of work within the group/project team and may act as a technical resource for less experienced employees. Furthermore, it is expected that the successful candidate will present results in team meetings and interdepartmental presentations. The ideal candidate will receive little instruction on day-to-day work and receive general instructions on new assignments/topics of interest.

Qualifications Required Background:

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited school with 2+ years of relevant experience. Alternate degrees may be accepted provided relevant work experience is demonstrated.

- Master’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience.

- Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Required Skills:

- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

- Must be a self-starting individual, with the ability to handle multiple assignments and to prioritize tasks.

- Working knowledge of PC-based programs, databases, and applications.

Preferred Skills:

- An EIT or Professional Engineering License.

- Technical writing experience.

- Familiarity with CFR 49 Part 192 and NJBPU regulations is desired.

- Experience in specifically natural gas Engineering Design, Construction, or operations.

- Knowledge of AutoCAD.

$69,000 - 110,400

We are committed to pay transparency and ensuring equitability compensation for all employees. The pay range for this position reflects the base salary only and does not include benefits, bonuses, or other forms of compensation that might be part of the total compensation package. The specific salary offered will be based on a candidate’s qualifications, education, and experience.
