Technician, Emergency Response Services

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct environmental clean-up activities.

- Ensure Hazardous-Materials incident mitigation.

- Perform chemical transfers.

- Perform technical rescue activities.

- Involvement in chemical firefighting tasks.

- Provide dangerous goods consulting.

- Participate in various Industrial services.

- Responding to various emergencies as requested.

- Participating in job specific and health & safety training as required.

- Operating his/her position in an efficient and safe manner.

- Participating in standby confined space rescue work.

- Completing work related documentation and reporting.

- Follow all established organizational policies and procedures.

- Support the vision and values of the organization.

- Promote and participate in a work environment free of workplace harassment and violence.

- Perform work in a safe manner, so as not to endanger oneself or others.

- Reporting workplace hazards, accidents or other occurrences that may pose a risk to the organization or the safety of oneself or others.

- Adhere to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board Act, Ontario Human Rights Code and Employment Standards Act.

- Participate in team/staff meetings when required.

- Work in a manner that preserves confidentiality and minimizes risk.

- Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

- Post-secondary education, preferably in a related area of study.

- Pre-service Fire, Medical, or Police training.

- NFPA 472 Hazardous Material Operations.

- NFPA 1001 level 1 or 2.

- On-call work availability for emergency response.

- Hazardous materials and/or environmental experience an asset.

- Vacuum truck experience an asset.

- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).

- Confined space awareness.

- Reliable means of personal transportation

- Willingness to work at extreme heights and within confined spaces.

- Participate in pre-employment and post-incident drug & alcohol testing.

- Professional and trustworthy, with a customer focus to his/her work.

- Must be a highly motivated, service and team-oriented individual with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.

- Valid Certification in First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).
