X-energy, LLC is seeking an accomplished Technical Fellow, Materials Engineering to provide senior technical leadership and strategic direction for materials engineering capabilities. This senior technical leadership position drives innovation and excellence in qualifying graphite, metallic alloys, composites, and welding materials for the Xe-100 Small Modular Reactor (SMR), with particular emphasis on mission-critical reactor systems operating in high temperature environments.
The technical fellow will provide strategic direction and technical mentorship to specialized engineering teams performing advanced materials lifetime degradation assessment and performance demonstration activities. This role implements leading edge metallurgy and tribology principles to select and apply technical codes and standards and develop methodologies that advance reactor technology while enabling cost-effective construction approaches. Responsibilities include driving innovation in materials qualification methodologies, regulatory engagement, providing technical oversight across multi-disciplinary project teams, and developing the technical framework for next-generation advanced reactor materials deployments optimized for high temperature nuclear environments.
This role is responsible for serving as a subject matter expert (SME) and provides strategic guidance and deep technical expertise to ensure the optimal design, integration, and performance of complex systems. The Technical Fellow will leverage their extensive knowledge of materials engineering principles, nuclear reactor high temperature material behavior, and practices to optimize systems, processes, and the engineering organization. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and problem-solving capabilities to ensure that all system components—people, technology, materials, information, and energy—work together seamlessly to meet project and organizational goals. The Technical Fellow will collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance engineering and material qualification practices, influence product and system architectures, and contribute to the continuous improvement of systems integration, performance, and efficiency.
Ph.D. in the specific discipline can substitute for authorship of peer-reviewed or technical publications.
Demonstrated knowledge in leveraging computational materials science methods and simulating materials performance.
